The problem is imagining someone who looks like Pamela Anderson just walking around in real life, applying for boring jobs as dentist's receptionists. I've certainly never seen anyone in person who looks like Pamela. I think Shania Twain has more the kind of looks you can imagine a regular person having.

Every time I think I can't hate this travesty any more, Lynn manages to make me do just that. That happens on an average of... oh, pretty much once a day.
Today? I want to smack that ugly leer off Rod's John's face. In fact, the only one I don't want to smack is Baby Liz.

Ohmigosh, ANOTHER strip about cheating husbands! Let it go, woman! Just go on a long trip, learn to knit, pick up a young hot stud in Tuscany and go nuts. Do whatever you have to to get over Rod, because you're driving people crazy.

Edit: to avoid repetition. Also, I have a friend who was a longtime Foob fan. Loooved it. He's a middle-aged man. He emailed me that he's no longer going to read the strip because he's so uncomfortable with the Rod/John as creepy sexist pig and bad husband storylines.

So, what few fans are left of this strip after it turned into "Pattersons are Gods", Lynn has managed to drive away with her reworking of the old strips. Good job, Lynn. I guess you won't stop messing with this strip until every single fan of yours is repulsed by it and dumps it.

I use to be a big fan in the beginning, but now that I'm reading the reworked strips I'm wondering if they were that boring then and I simply had no taste or if she's made them especially dull on purpose.

It was always a low-key strip with more "oh yeah, that happens in my family" rather than gutbusting laughs. It was like the Ladies Home Journal of strips, lots of homey lightweight stuff with the odd serious subject thrown in. What made it fun was not knowing what would happen next. John and his friend went missing on their fishing trip! What will happen? April's being bullied at school! Ohmigod, the bully got hit by a car! Dingus Mike's apartment's on fire! As it is now, we know how it all turns out. Lynn took the one reason her strip was interesting and killed it.

Oooh, I only vaguely remember this. It was a kid named Jeremy, right? What happened after he got hit by the car? Did he renounce his evil ways and decide never to to be mean to a Patterson again? I know he was one of the "bad" characters, but since his name didn't start with a K I'm sure he had a shot at redemption. In Lynn's world, it's only people with K names who are truly evil. Which is why I'm proud my real name begins with a K.

I just find these retro strips boring and irritating. Was "John is a thoughtless jerk" such a running thread in the original strips? Or has Lynn added a few new ones to Patterstab at Rod?

Not quite - Jeremy Jones was the mean nasty bully who got hit by the car, and Gerald Forsythe was the mean nasty bully who April dated.
