I'm probably going to get stoned for this, but I don't get the big deal about him. I mean, I understand that the Twilight series is a huge phenom and he's playing a character who is the romantic fantasy of adolescent girls, but I don't get the hype about him specifically. I thought he looked handsome in Harry P.; now, I think he looks like every other non-threatening, almost feminine heartthrob for the tween set (note: I am going by what he looked like in person, not the scruffy photo linked in the beginning of this thread). I can't buy him as a superstrong vamp.
I might be slightly soured due to the Twilight panel I saw at ComicCon. The director seemed like a burnout/flake, Kristin Stewart gave off an arrogant air and looked like she didn't want to be there, and Pattinson just kept playing with his hair and giggling. I left halfway through because I was finding them all so unlikeable and I didn't want them to sour the film for me, as I enjoyed the books. It was an overwhelming venue to be sure (1000's of screaming fangirls and their equally enthusiastic moms), and he is young, but he had to know that the event and film were huge, so I found it annoying that he was not able to form one coherent sentence. It's not like he hasn't been part of a huge fantasy franchise before...

I get the deal with him more than I do the books. He seems sort of funny and self-deprecating. I also think he finds the books as dumb as I do, so that endears him to me.

I have a hard time imagining him giggling. Was he really a complete ditz? Also, I'm not a Kristen Stewart fan at all (not that I hate her, either...I guess I'm apathetic), but she's always seemed very introverted and quiet from what I've seen of her. That sort of personality can be easily mistaken as arrogance and superiority -- speaking from experience here! Of course you'd have a better idea of how she came across than I would, but I'd probably give her a pass myself. But I digress.

Me, too, Susy -- I sit there during HP films feeling like a Mrs. Robinson perv! I don't find Robert Pattinson particularly attractive, though. He looks bloaty and weird in this last set of pics.

How old is he? I need to find out before I am arrested by the Thought Police.

I'm pretty sure he's 22/23, so he's legal! (And my age too! ) I love that he thinks Twilight is stupid. I can't decide whether I should read the books for shits and giggles or not. I'll have to see if the library has them. Sunny, I remember the first time I saw the first HP movie in the theater, when I was 16. My best friend and I kept whispering to each other, "it's just like in the books!" When Oliver strode onscreen, I went, "he's nothing like the books, but that's okay with me!"

How old is he? I need to find out before I am arrested by the Thought Police. He turned 22 in May, so yay for legalness. I love how in all the set photos he always looked like he was having second thoughts about doing the movie after meeting the fans.

incognito, I really don't have many more details beyond my initial account. The only ones on the panel who seemed poised, happy, and attempted to answer questions thoroughly from the 20 minutes I saw were the actors playing Victoria (everyone seemed to literally look to her to field almost all of the questions) and Jacob. He is even younger than Pattinson and Stewart, and while he seemed a bit overwhelmed too, he also managed to appear flattered and excited.

I read an interview with him and his comments were trying to be thoughtful and all, but also insipid. *sigh* all beauty and no brains it seems. Sad to see him dumping on twilight that may just make him a star. He should be more grateful because he'll have better choices of projects to choose from because of it.
