I remember hearing rumors that their marriage was in trouble (perhaps around the time she was in that Bruce Willis movie - I think she and Vincent had just finished making Irreversible). Maybe they separated and then realized the apartness gave their marriage the spice they need to stay together. It does seem like they would be apart a lot simply making movies (except that they make a lot of movies together) but, like many have said, whatever works for them.

I have to say, I love the idea of having two separate homes, but I first heard the idea from Woody Allen and Mia Farrow so I had to rethink that particular idea.

I dunno. I guess I'm more traditional that you guys. I'm not slamming the idea at all. I just wouldn't do it cuz if I want to be with someone, I want to BE with them, kwim? I don't need to be away from my mate and miss them in order to appreciate him and respect his individuality. It's our choice. Either way, she is freaking gorgeous! and so is her hubby

Yeah, I'm kind of ditto on this with MrsCatHead and InnocentOnce. My husband and I actually did live apart for almost a year with the talking every day and physically visiting every week or other week. We are both independent and can completely tell each other "I need my space" without hurt feelings, but all in all it was hard.

Obviously, if it works for them then more power to them, but my snarky comment is that if you have to live in different countries to keep the interest going then I have my doubts about the longevity of the marriage.
