I think so. The picture is on her Tumblr fan sites and her dad kind of looks the same in the later photos. I wondered at the mother's 80's do, too, but Wiki says Selena was born in 1992 and they are from Texas, so that might account for it.

Yeah, if it was 1997 Selena would be 16 or turning 16 and that's not right, lol.

Big hair was still in until about 93-94 ish so yeah, that is about right.

The song she performed is actually kinda catchy. I've never really watched her or listened to her music before so I cannot judge.

Some of Selena's songs are catchy, but as a live performer, not so much. Recorded, though, her voice has an interesting huskiness compared to the other Disney starlets.

I like her voice, too. It's surprisingly deep and is a nice contrast with her baby-face.

But that performance...She looked beautiful, but she performed those dance moves with no life, no sass, no attitude at all. She was just kinda there, going through the motions. And I don't know if it's because I'm getting older, but she seems so young - not just in her face, but in her movements and mannerisms. I mean, I know she obviously is young, but it's hard for me to believe that Britney was younger than Selena when she did her striptease and her snake dance at the VMAs. Britney was so womanly in comparison and could own the stage back then. Selena doesn't have that kind of presence yet at all.

Selena's new video for 'Come and Get It'. Say what you will about her romantic choices, but she is stunningly gorgeous.

It's funny that all the Disney girls - Selena, Demi and Miley - are all trying to establish themselves as bonafide pop stars at the same time. If I were to loosely categorise their strengths, I'd say that Selena's got the looks, Demi's got the voice and Miley's got the personality. Which one will be most successful?

I look at her and all I see and hear is 'teenager'. She reeks of Disney. I can't picture anybody over the age of 18 taking her seriously. Her music, everything about her, is boring.

I'd say Miley definitely was a bonafide pop star circa 2009. "The Climb" and then "Party in the USA" where both huge hits, her albums were selling better than most in the pop industry, her tour did really well, and she was on the receiving end of a lot of media attention (e.g., the "pole-dancing" performance at the Teen Choice awards).

Then she just fell off completely the next year after trying to go the Gaga route with "Can't Be Tames." I tend to doubt her ability to stage a comeback but wouldn't necessarily be surprised if she pulled one off.

As far as the other two go, Demi has a much better voice than Selena (though her shrieky straining tends to annoy me), but Selena has the better/catchier songs. Kinda reminiscent of the situation back when Britney and Christina both debuted.

Though I will say I think Selena's comedic acting is more notable than Demi's singing, and even Selena's singing is not nearly as bad as Demi's acting.
