This is the lamest excuse for "exhaustion" ever. People don't go to the hospital for eating too much pizza/fries/chicken/whatever. If they did I would be in ICU frequently. I'm assuming her PR people figure the tweens will buy this bs.

I heard that her blood pressure dropped and the exhaustion thing.
However, I think someone up thread called it, the girl got a bad case of famewhoring.
Otherwise, known as bitch got a red eye on the publicity train.

I don't know. If what she says is true and she's not eating a decent variety of foods, it would be easy enough for her to be deficient in iron. I eat a reasonably well balanced diet, but for the life of me cannot consistently keep my iron in the acceptable level without a supplement.
I'm sure the first article about her hospitalisation said that she reported a severe headache and nausea. If she's faking it, she's at least got a decent story going because headache, nausea, low blood pressure and a general feeling of exhaustion or fatigue could all be explained away as symptoms of iron deficiency.

But the standards for celebs is totally different, that's the key thing. I've seen co-stars get taken to the hospital for the tiniest thing. Things no 'regular' person would ever dream of going to the hospital for. My friend just got taken to hospital because he was developing a stye on his eye, because he's the lead in a big budget production where he has to do stunt driving and they couldn't risk anything impairing his eyesight. If he misses even one performance it's a big deal because people have bought tickets and travelled from around the world to see him. I bet if that got into the press no one would believe it either and there'd be tons of posts going, "please, I've had styes tons of times and have never gone to hospital."
Industry norms are not norms for the rest of the world. When there are millions of of dollars riding on your ability to continue working (say if you're the lead in a movie and have shot too much to be recast, and missing even one day's filming costs thousands of dollars), believe me, you go to the hospital. Not to mention the insurance factor. Actresses fainting because they've been working really long hours on little sleep and not enough food/junk food and being taken to the hospital is pretty common. It probably wasn't just what she was eating, but not eating enough and other factors.

Which makes me wonder, with all that's riding on Selena doing whatever it is she does (acting? singing?) why aren't her handlers scheduling regular meals and naps? In between all her stops on the promotion trail, she hasn't had time to have a snack in the green room, or on the car ride, or in the makeup chair? This all screams bullshit. Stars get their asses kissed at an unbelievable rate. If she wanted to eat, or needed to eat, she could snap her fingers and a flunky would make a delicious, nutritious, low-fat, low-cal meal appear. There's more to the story than we're getting. I don't care all that much, but the excuses are just so flimsy.

I think her excuse is plausible since she's a teenager.
I wouldn't necessarily buy it from a 30 year old adult but it does seem possible for an 18 year old to eat chocolate all day, not get the right amount of iron, and then collapse. A lot of high school and college students tend to live like that when studying.
Because of her age, I don't find her frame unusual either.
She'd probably start to see the negative effects of too much chocolate on her frame later. Being 18 is still pretty good for the metabolism.

When I was in college my diet was Sprite, french fries, double stuff oreos and pizza. I never gave a thought to nutrition. I had a bad headache for two days and then very briefly fainted. Turns out, I was anemic.
I think many kids eat like that and are fine, but every now and then a couple of us end up sick. The hospital stay is over the top, but I'm guessing they were giving her stuff via IV so they could push her back on stage faster.

Wait nowhere did I read that she was anemic (iron deficient), so are people on this thread making excuses for Selena or they her handlers?
Hmm... inquiring minds want to know.
All I heard from the press was that Selena suffered from exhaustion and low blood pressure, which does not immediately mean that she was anemic.
Heck, I was anemic for years. I got so severe that you could pull out my hair, and I would not feel it. With that said, I know many people who are anemic, who don't need to be rushed to the hospital.
So, I will just sideline that, unless I missed something on the latest Selena health update.

Selena used the term malnourished. I'm not sure where the iron deficiency stuff came from. And there's a huge difference between the two.

You got me, I'm her handler (honestly, I barely even know who this chick is)!
I saw her say that she was dehydrated and low in iron. In a real life interview .. I wasn't paid to say it, I swear.
She's a teenager. A doctor probably told her to get off the junk food and eat better. My guess is that she eats a few candy bars a day and little else, got super sick from low calories and nutrition, and her people sent her for a complete work up. Just because everyone isn't fainting from their bad eating habits doesn't mean she didn't. She's a dumb kid probably desperately trying to look a certain way for her toddler boyfriend and all his fans. She'll learn.
