So was I! I'm kind of shocked.
I have read a few of his books and I liked them. This is sad news.

I had no idea either. I'm totally shocked.

Whoa... Totally didn't see that coming. I always assumed he'd continue to be a player in the literary and entertainment industry, based on how many of his books were made into movies and such. I think he had a lot more stories left in him that it's a shame will never be shared now.

Didn't he also write Indecent Proposal, that was made into a movie with Demi Moore and Michael Douglas, about sexual harassment by a woman against a man?
I really enjoyed Jurassic Park, both the book and the movie. I love that kind of present day sci-fi.

I've read a number of his books -- "Andromeda Strain" is my favorite, and I also especially like his book of brief bio sketches, "Travels." Incredibly talented man. Actually met him once at a luncheon on Capitol Hill sponsored by some trade-related caucus after "Rising Sun" was released. (Very tall, and very handsome) We talked briefly, and he gave me his business card, but I never had the nerve to contact him! I know the family wants to keep the matter private and I respect that, but I do wonder what type of cancer he died of at the age of 66.

Wow that is really cool Seabreeze! Did he seem nice and intelligent? I imagine talking to him would have been pretty awesome.
I read Congo too. I liked it.

aims, MC was so tall (6'9") that I think he was a bit intimidating...no one in the room was talking with him when I approached him - with a copy of "Rising Sun" in my hand - to say 'hello.' Yes, he was genuinely nice, open and willing to debate one passage in his book that I thought was a bit off. (At the time, I worked with the Japanese). He handled himself with charming, casual aplomb during the Q and A afterwords.
I have to say, his total of *five* wives baffles me though, lol.

Duh. He didn't write Indecent Proposal (about sexual harassment); it was called Disclosure. I'm getting my Demi Moore movies mixed up.
I read somewhere that tall people don't live as long as their shorter counterparts.

The oldest man in America died just the other day, and in his prime he weighed 100 pounds, so there's probably some truth to that.
