Maybe she didn't want to go to the ceremony and opted instead for a party. I feel skeptical about that in an industry as self-aggrandizing as Hollywood. Who wouldn't grab an invitation with both hands if offered?

A proper Hollywood Oscars party would be a lot more fun than the actual event, IMHO. One you could get drunk at and yabber to your heart's content while at the other you'd have to sit there for hours on end looking picture perfect.

1st sighting of the twins. DM says they are boy/girl twins, but who knows. I see Anna in both of them.

Okay so I'm years late but I dug up this thread because I've been watching True Blood for the first time on Amazon Instant Streaming (the first three seasons on Prime-I'm almost done with the third season), and I was wondering if it was basically universal consensus that her acting is stunningly, horrendously, painfully AWFUL.
Sometimes I wonder if it's the writing or her acting that makes Sookie so horrible. I wonder if ANY actress could make Sookie work as a likeable heroine/ingenue. Again I'm only on Season 3, but she is always flying off the handle to the "bad" vampires in the worst situations, almost getting herself killed. To Bill's ex vampire girlfriend, she screamed something like "he loves ME, you lost!!! you fucking bitch!!" like a complete lunatic. And one minute Eric saves her life, and the next minute she's biting his head off. And all of the "I'm a lady!" faux pearl-clutching type stuff is the worst. She's just terrible.
I wonder if another actress could make her a little more likeable even with the same lines. Paquin seems to act her as very black or white, if that makes sense. If the line is something like "you're terrible" it's cranked up to 10 every time, no subtlety or possible conflicted feelings. Her accent is bad too, but that's the least offensive thing about her performance. (However don't get me started on Tara's accent. I've lived in Alabama most of my life and just NO. Ironically, the Australian actor sounds the most authentic to me.)
Oh well, I'm almost done with my three free seasons. I doubt I will pay to watch after this, unless the later seasons become available to stream for free.

I love the show, but the three major actors are all varying degrees of bad. Alexander Skarsgard makes up for it by being hot.

I've seen her in other things where she was fine, I think it's the material. Also, some of the scenes pull me out of the show b/c they look like high-school production sets. I think Skarsgard is OK but Stephen is awwwwful. One day I'm sure someone will do a supercut of him yelling "Soo-keh!"
Just a heads-up, I think S1-3 are probably the best. I've watched out of habit since then but I still think Rene's storyline was one of the most entertaining, along with anything involving Lafayette's family/love interests. All the fairy/military/random BS from later seasons made my eyes glaze over.

That's funny you mention Jason Stackhouse's accent because I'm also from Alabama and have always thought he has the best southern accent on the show. Bill, I'm willing to give a pass on somewhat just because he's meant to be from Civil War times and I'm sure the accents were much different then... but his accent still sounds laughable to me. And the rest of them- awful.

I think both Jason and Rene had great accents. I read that some people had trouble understanding Rene b/c it was too much on point. Sigh, I miss crazy Rene...

Isn't the source material pretty awful as well? The book series with the different-colored vampires?
