My father comes from a family of boys--one of whom is his twin--and both he and said twin only had girls, 3 each. According to my mother (as this was back before everyone knew the sex prior to the birth), every pregnancy was met with a "well this one MUST be a boy," but nope.
Topic? I think Violet and Seraphina flow well enough together. Violet and Sera even moreso.

It's especially interesting to me because Casey Affleck has two boys, and Matt Damon's brother only has boys (I think.)

Why not just name her Sara/Sarah/Serah?? I don't mind Serafina but seriously, if you name a child Serafina...call them Serafina/Seraphina. I hate nicknames!!!! Whoa. Nicknames aren't that bad!!

No, they are not that bad but whats the point of naming your kid A just so you can call him B. It's one thing if a "nickname" just sort of happens, but another thing to name your kid Serafina or whatever and then turn around and say but everyone must call them Sera. Why not just call them Sera to begin with?? Besides what if little Serafina wants to be called Fina and not Sera??

Yeah, I don't mind if nicknames just happen in the course of life, but I've never understood the point of naming a child something you don't plan on calling them day-to-day. My family was never big on nicknames and my name is only five letters long, so maybe it's just something I don't get.
Topic: I don't think there's any great conspiracy or famewhore reasons that Ben and Jennifer continue to live in LA. You don't hear them moaning about the paps too much compared to some other stars, so that's not something that would make them move, and maybe they like the weather in SoCal compared to all the seasons in New England.

I actually don't think siblings' names need to go together, but that pair does remind me of my reaction to reading an article about Bear Grylls (Man vs. Wild) and his sons: Marmaduke and Jesse. To follow up on my post from earlier today I guess he has a third son now: Huckleberry Edward Jocelyne So that's Marmaduke, Huckleberry and ... Jesse. I find it a little sad that Serafina seems pretty normal nowadays.

OT/ but Jocelyne? For a BOY? Huh.
But yes, it is sad that Seraphina is considered norm. My name isn't anything too crazy, but let me tell you, not many have it at my age. Strange that so many little ones are sporting it, though.
I'm curious to see if she's got the Garner trademark dimples, too!

OT: I think Jocelyn was originally a boy's name as were Courtney, Leslie, Ashley and Kerry. It would be really interesting to trace how these names managed to shift from male to female.
Topic: I'm with lpatrice on the nickname thing. I was christened one name but my parents have always called me by another name. Actually, what they call me is the Russian dimunitive on my real name but in English my real name and my nickname don't have an obvious connection so it just makes life difficult for me. I guess Sera and Seraphina are obviously connected but, still. If you want a Sera or a Sarah call her that! Why make it more complicated? It's not like Vicky and Victoria where one is a nickname and one more formal. Sera is a name in its own right!

I don't like the name of the new baby, and they did what I said they shouldn't do - end the first name with a vowel/a what with the last name starting with an A. Whatever! I am not a fan of nicknames, period, but we just didn't grow up with them. This reminds me of Princess Diana and Prince Charles naming their 2nd baby Henry...(whatever his middle names are), but immediately calling him Harry. I suppose they had to, for royalty/lineage reasons, maybe. On a totally different note - I have only ever seen Jennifer in Alias, Catch Me if You Can, Daredevil and Elektra (and I must have seen her in Pearl Harbor, but I don't remember). I remember her vaguely in Felicity, as well. Based on those tv shows/movies, I'm not sure if she's a very good actor or not. I liked her in Alias, but stopped watching after the first 3 seasons.
