I loved Trisha's version too. At the time, LeAnn was like 16 and Trisha was in her 30s and her maturity gave her performance more depth, IMO.
I went on a 90s country nostalgia kick a few months ago, and Trisha and LeAnn had some great songs back then.

As someone who sings and had training during my school years, I always had an issue with the LeAnn version where she says "chew" instead of "you": "How do I live without CHEW..." drove me nuts. I've always been taught that you have to prevent yourself from doing the "chew" and annunciate properly. I think that's just experience and age for her, but I personally liked LeAnn's voice and style over Trisha's. I can't put my finger on it, but there was a way with her tone that touched me more than Trisha's.
I wish that she would put out an album of all the covers she did on The Masked Singer and add in a few more. Tons of artists do it already and she sounds just AMAZING with the vocal arrangements she gives to so many of these popular songs.

I agree about the "chew" thing. I've never trained as a singer, but the lack of annunciation with "you" always stuck out.

I saw her live back in the 90’s and her voice was phenomenal.
My favorite song of hers is “Probably Wouldn’t Be This Way”. It’s gorgeous and heartbreaking and she actually acts really really well in the video.

She's always had an amazing voice. It's a pity her personal life and her crazy shenanigans overshadow her actual talent. But having said that, she's been quiet in the last few years. Hopefully she's left the dramatics behind and is focusing on her singing again. I remember some drama around How Do I Live but it’s vague. Something like Trisha Yearwood recorded it but then LeAnn’s people also got her to record it and rushed it out before Yearwood’s version? Anyway, I didn’t pay much attention to it but I clearly remember that I preferred LeAnn’s. ETA: My memory was fuzzy; here’s why they both recorded itI remember this as well, I preferred LeAnn's version but there was some rationale for using Trisha's version in the hilariously awful Con-Air. I only remember it because I'd followed the "controversy" via magazines or something and decided to explain It to my bf as it was playing in the movie and he was all WTF are you even talking about it and why in the theater? LOL, funny the things that stick with you...

Ohmigosh, SLANDER AGAINST CON-AIR?! Will not be tolerated. That movie is such a guilty pleasure. I will drop everything I'm doing to watch it. Robbed, robbed, robbed of the Oscar, Grammy, Emmys, Baftas, everything!

How can you talk bad about Con Air when it gave us this?!

The Masked Singer is too surreal and frightens me but I'm glad she had the opportunity to remind people that she has a gorgeous tone and always has. Any love for Can't Fight the Moonlight? Just me?

Con-Air should be treated as the National Treasure (see what I did?!) it is. Put it in the archives along with Face/Off. Sorry to hijack Leann’s thread. I hope this starts a bit of a renaissance for her. She’s too talented to languish. But she needs to leave the drama behind.

I like both Trisha’s and LeAnn’s versions. The difference to me is that LeAnn is singing the song…Trisha is living that song. There is just subtle nuance of life experience there.
