Am I the only one who keeps thinking of "Lady Marmalade" when ever I hear her name? No, that's immediately what I think too. Damn. I immediately think of infants babbling.

Just Dance LoveGame Beautiful, Dirty, Rich
Thanks! I didn't know she made a video for LoveGame! I just think she rocks. Love the glam, over-the-top, costume-y, glittery look. And I don't care if her music is disco or glorified club music or whatever. I just can't BELIEVE I am actually hearing something on the radio other than hip hop, faux "R&B" or rock. And I love disco anyway. Bring it back!

I know I'm in the minority but I don't think Lady Gaga is nearly as good as she made out to be. Don't get me wrong she's not awful. Hey, if Britney was worthy of a record deal then there is no reason why Lady Gaga, who doesn't sound like a cat dying in pure misery, shouldn't get one. But I'm just not seeing why so many are declaring, "She's such an original! No other artist has ever been like her!" Seriously, there really isn't anything original about her. Her music is glorified dance music. Nothing wrong with that but it's far from original. Her style is wacky but she's far from the first singer to dress outrageously. I don't begrudge her success but just don't see why she's being declared this one of a kind performer.
I also think she tries WAY to hard be seen as sexy and frankly is a bit of an airhead. Someone linked some comments she made in the Celebrity Dumb Quotes thread and honestly she made Jessica Simpson look like a member of Mensa at times.

Her whole image and act is so calculated, I'm not sure whether she says dumb things as part of her persona or if that's really what she thinks.

She's learned from Madonna what sells: blonde hair, ridiculous clothes and plenty of crotch shots.

She wants to be seen as original, as an artist, as cool, but sexy is not what she's selling. In her interviews she talks about being very sexual and being sexually empowered. She even says she "has unprotected sex with her songs." She also refuses to wear pants and gives the cameras plenty of crotch shots. If that isn't attempting to be sexy then I don't know what is. Entertainment Weekly has kindly put together some quotes. She's either a real moron or Lady Gaga is this persona she put together to make some sort of point. I have heard her CD is called the The Fame because wanted to prove anybody can become famous.

To me, that's attempting to be shocking and wanting to be talked about. Giving the camera crotch shots and talking about having unprotected sex with your songs (or saying that a great show is like a great fuck) is not exactly trying to be sexy in modern America. In modern America, that's Pamela Anderson's breast implants, or Britney's low rise jeans that always showed her abs, back in the day, or other things that are closer to conventional views of what a sexy female is. The way I see it, Lady Gaga never tries to seduce the camera, and this is what I kind of think of as sexy. I get what you're saying, but I'd phrase it differently - that she uses sex too much for shock tactics. And that's me playing devil's advocate, because I love her, I just can't help it - like someone else said, she's a breath of fresh air.

I guess it depends on your view of what sexy is. To me talking about how sexual you are and how sexy your choreography is attempting to be seen as sexy. She's not doing it the way Pamela and Britney are but I do see it as a way to try to seduce the audience. It has a "See what I'm willing to do? Come on over and I'll show you!" feel to it. Though I do agree she's also trying to be shocking and uses sexual tactics for attention. I think the photos bitca linked are evidence of her using sex to try to get attention.
Hey, I think she makes some catchy music so I can understand why people love her. I just don't view her as this breathe of fresh air or that original. Madonna has been doing this for years. To me she's just another pop star trying to be Madonna. Now, if it turns out she's this producer/songwriter who decided to create this Lady Gaga persona to poke fun at today's pop stars and prove anybody with some catchy songs can be famous then I'll take it all back. Because that would genius. In fact, I really hope that's what's going on.
