I'm on the third book now. What I have learned is even in the books Bill is just a big old douche. I do not get what Sookie sees in him. Then again, I have the same issue with tv Bill. At least book Sookie seems to be realizing Bill is a douche and considering if perhaps she should find someone else.
So far, I find book Sookie more endearing than tv Sookie. Maybe this will change as I read the series but book Sookie seems to have more brains than tv Sookie.

I just read the latest book, and I can see how you can consider it a breather. But it was kind of boring. There's too much normal stuff descried in detail, like " I went home, changed into shorts and had a Marie Callender's pot pie", or "I laid out in my bikini while doing the laundry". The whole book is full of that shit.
And once again, Charlene Harris has referenced her real era by referring to a skimpy outfit on a werewolf girl as "MTV clothes". Maybe it's time she hang up the writing and just collect her True Blood royalties, whatever they may be. I have to wonder how old the editor is, to not catch those kind of anacronisms.

Thanks blacksheep! I think I will check out the books. If I don't like the first one I can just enjoy True Blood (most specifically Alexander Skarsgard's fine body). I was initially worried major plot points might be spoiled but I was clued in Alan Ball isn't a slave to staying 100% true to the books and will change things if he feels certain points just won't work for the show. In other words, I can read the books and still be surprised. Ok, this is mainly based on the series but there appears to be some similarities between Twilight and this series. I had to check to see who published first and found Charlaine Harris published her books first. Has she ever made any comments about the similarities? I know I'm sitting here wondering if Stephanie Meyer ripped off CH! I thought the same thing! I was really rather sorry I had read Twilight first, I think it may have ruined my initial impression of the Sookie books a bit. All in all, I think there's enough difference between the show and the books that they really wind up as a complement to each other and come off as more of a companion set. In my experience so far, at least. I house sat for a friend last year who is into all this stuff and there are dozens of these kinds of supernatural soft core porn book series, all pretty much alike. She had tons of them. Which naturally I read for the good bits. They're all pretty much alike.

I've just started reading these books and have a super stupid question: What is the name of the fourth book? I was in the book store and couldn't figure it out myself and was too embarrassed to ask.

Dead Reckoning is set to be released on May 3. Please tell me that I am not the only person here who has it on pre-order?

Book Sookie is 100x better than TV Sookie. Maybe it's Anna Paquin, or maybe it's the way TV Sookie is written, but TV Sookie has become more stupid over time, and just so...shrill* that I can barely handle watching her. * I hate the word 'shrill', but in this case it's the best word I can come up with.

I've been waiting for it to come in the mail for days now, even after reading the (expected) horrible reviews. Really hoping it shows up today for the weekend.
