I caught my first episode of this show, and it certainly made me feel better about myself. I guess it's a new season, but this has been on for a while. Is it not obvious to the producers that most of these poeple are mentally ill?
On the show I watched, this couple in Hawaii almost had their kids taken away because they were climbing over hills of junk in their house, and the dad refused to say anything to his wife because he was afraid she's divorce him... Fucking Grow A Pair, Dude! He was as mentally ill as she was, IMO.

Fucking Grow A Pair, Dude! He was as mentally ill as she was, IMO. We watched this one. As soon as the wife started speaking, I knew she was crazy. The husband infuriated me. He knew she was harming the children with her hoarding. He knew they were going to lose the kids if they didn't clean up that pig sty and he still hesitated to say something to her. She wasn't going to divorce him. She needed him as much as he needed her. They were co-dependent on each other. ![:-X](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/lipssealed.png) The other lady was simply pathetic, but her daughter needs to be counselor. My mother has been quoting her rant. It was the first time someone said what I've been thinking while watching this show.

I can't watch this show. And yet... here I am posting about it anyway, haha. The Hawaiian family was bad, but I got chills down my spine with the other family - when they said it was suspected the mother had gone out dumpster-diving during the night. If that's true... my God.

That older mom looked like an alcoholic to me. I just got that vibe.
Even the guy who was cleaning her house called her a mean old lady.. how bad do you have to be when the people who do this for a living call you that?
It was clear both daughters had given up on their mom a long time ago, but the one that looked most like her was stuck being responsible for her and was pissed about it.

I think that was the guy who had a hoarder parent of his own. He gets pretty snippy with a lot of the people, especially compared to some of the other organizers. He's kinda awesome for it.

It was clear both daughters had given up on their mom a long time ago, but the one that looked most like her was stuck being responsible for her and was pissed about it. I felt bad for that sister. Dad's gone, the mother's lost to the hoard, and her other sister just checked out (and good for her -- I don't blame her). I couldn't get over the hoarder woman who spent what seemed like hours sweeping off the cat litter from her recliner. And the nerve of her to tell the therapist he was asking "stupid questions." Really, lady? That's a pretty rich assessment from a woman whose ceilings are falling in, has to make potty in the backyard, and has two middle-aged, never-employed children living in her home doing the same. The ending shot of all four of them sitting there in their misery with their freaked-out cats on their laps was completely disturbing.

My sister and I have a ritual of watching Hoarders together while chatting online (we live in different states), and we simultaneously wrote, "I'm having trouble typing because I can't look away." I thought Sir Patrick was complex and fascinating, and thought the scope of his fables interesting.
The Gordon and Gaye family was horrifying, although I think that one of the organizers posted on the A&E boards that the children were actually employed--whatever it is they do, it can't be as bad as Teri being a nurse. What I don't get is that Peter (or whatever the son's name is--my sister said she misheard it as Tu-ton, so that's how we referred to him) and Gordon seemed in lite-denial but were able to part with junk, while the mother and creepily coiffed daughter had shopping problems. The son had the exact same hair as his father, and the daughter had her ponytail, barrettes and bangs, and it was all so strange. I have no idea what that means, but the mother was nasty and....well, wow. Please, local newspaper, do an investigative report, because I will read the hell out of it.

Oh! That's good to know! I could have sworn the episode said they were unemployed. Or maybe that was me making inferences because I was too focused on looking at the squalor to pay attention to the words.
And yeah...Teri. THE NURSE. With the house filled with filth and cockroaches. I'm sure the person who had some cath put in by her was not pleased. Haven't there been an unusual amount of nurses/retired nurses on this show?
