Oh, let me guess, someone answered that poor poster with "it's called Television without pity!" I remember when people used to snark on a show and love it anyways. Now it's just hateful.

To be fair, I think there are a lot of threads here that (sadly) have become hateful too. Read half the celeb threads and it's pick, pick, pick about their looks, their perceived lack of talent, on and on. Certain celebs can't do anything and they have ulterior motives. The entire Golden Globes here thread is terrible - probably 90% hate for the celebs, the award winners, the presenters, on and on. I read it looking for amusing snark, but just found nastiness. Very TWOP-ish, really, and disappointing. Too bad.

Oh, and if you want blind, unadulterated hate, check out the Everyday Italian thread. They make GWOP look like a Kate frickin' fan club. Damn. I hadn't wandered into that thread in a long time. I mean Giada kinda bugs me in a few ways too, but judging from the posts at TWOP, you'd think she was the Antichrist! It's just cleavage, folks! There must be something wrong with me, because I never notice her big head or boobs. I usually look at the food. Shrug. Here's a perfect example of the crazy .. She's flauntin' it all over the kitchen! Those booby (no pun intended) traps she sets for her husband must thrill him to death. Once he admits that Giada is pretty, he probably gets hit with the venom.

I think there's a difference between snark and hate, although some celebs sure do bring out strong opinions in people. The GG thread wasn't a hatefest from my vantage point, mostly a lot of surprise at some of the winners and a whole lotta snark over merit of same.
We're a long way off from becoming TWoP Part Deux, so I wouldn't worry too much about that. With times being the way they are, people need an escape to vent, muse, commiserate, poke fun and otherwise enjoy, and that's exactly what we are. I don't think anyone needs to take this place (or any other message board) more seriously than that.

Oh, speak for yourself, Oxynia (oops...I mean, O Great Mod of All Eternity ). After a certain point the GG most definitely was a hatefest...on my part, anyway. I'll freely cop to that. The difference though, is that I didn't go in expecting to hate the show from the outset. It's not like I'd watched previous GG telecasts, hated them all, and decided to continue the tradition this year. With a lot of TWOPers, I just wonder why they keep watching the show if they hate it. After a certain point, wouldn't you just stop watching if the show angers you that much? Why continue to torture yourself?

Oh, I know this place isn't anywhere close to TWOP, but still. Sometimes I go into a thread here to see what a celeb is up to and I'm shocked by all the negativity. And not fun negativity, but just nastiness. It's disappointing.

After four months, there's finally an answer about the Soap Dish thread. From Strega:
Long story short: The thread was too vague, so it'll be closed for good. Any backstage gossip about a particular soap goes in that show's thread.

I enjoyed the Soap Dish thread. I didn't notice it going off-topic. I thought they were staying on-topic and only talking about the gossip.

I really don't understand what they mean by "boards on boards". I know it's a favourite lament of TWOP mods, but if you're discussing TWOP at TWOP, is that bad? At least if it's within the context of the thread of you're in. Can someone give an example of bad boards-on-boards?

RE: The Soap Dish thread, couldn't they just expand the function of the thread, then? Rename it? That way there's somewhere to talk about the future of soaps as a whole, or the like, without having to dive into the Guiding Light or As The World Turns threads for those who don't watch those shows but do realize their cancellations will have an impact on the other soaps?
I'm just spitballing, though.
And RE: "Boards on Boards." I think it was a way to avoid things like, "Ya'll are just a bunch of haterz and I'm tired of your bitching" types of posts. They don't want it to become more about the posters then about the show. But sometimes the fear of going boards-on-boards is ridiculously overblown. When you can't reply to a point another person brings up, it's way too narrow. It inhibits conversation and turns it into a series of sermons and declarative statements that can't be argued with for fear of getting a snotty rebuke.
