Say what you will about royalty, you have to admit, they sure do love their bling.
ITT, we shall discuss our favorite and least favorite royal rocks.

I always liked Diana's Lover's Knot Tiara. I remember being bummed when I heard she didn't like it because it was heavy and gave her a headache. I liked the Spencer Tiara as well. Wasn't her brother kind of mean by not letting her wear it after a while? Bastard.

Warning-NOT dial-up friendly links! The Cambridge Lover's Knot tiara originally belonged to Queen Mary, who had it made based on a tiara her aunt, the Grand Duchess of Mecklenberg Strelitz, inherited from her mother. That's one of my favorites too, but I think it looked better before Mary had the pearl spikes removed. (The second tiara is the original one that was owned by Grand Duchess Augusta, the first one is the one Diana used to wear). My other favorites: The Strathmore Rose tiara, a wedding present to Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mum from her parents. The Greek Key or Meander tiara, that belonged to Princess Alice of Greece, Phillip's mother. As much as I dislike her, it's a favorite of Princess Ane, the Princess Royal Queen Victoria's diamond and emerald tiara, which sadly, has recently been auctioned off. Queen Sophie's Prussian tiara that originally belonged to her grandmother, Princess Victoria of Prussia, the Duchess of Brunswick. It was a wedding gift from her father, the infamous Kaiser Wilhelm II. Queen Marie-Amelie of France's sapphire, diamond, and pearl parure The Grand Duchess Vladimir tiara. When Queen Mary bought it after the Grand Duchess died, she had it altered so she could wear it with the original pearls, or her remaining Cambridge emeralds, which were a family heirloom. Queen Alexandra's diamond kokoshnik fringe tiara This necklace and this matching ring, which belonged to Empress Eugenie of France. It's just like the Titanic necklace, which I love! Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden's sapphire tiara The Delhi Durbar necklace The Prince Albert Brooch, that Prince Albert gave Queen Victoria when they first got married. The Heart Shaped Cullinan brooch

Guinastasia, your whole post is jewel porn! I'm drooling. Interesting to know that Diana found the one tiara too heavy--I always wonder if they're very comfortable to wear. Guess not!

I liked the Spencer Tiara as well. Wasn't her brother kind of mean by not letting her wear it after a while? Bastard. He let her borrow it whenever she asked, even though he had to pay the insurance on it. She didn't go to any tiara events after 1992 and her separation, which is why it wasn't seen on her after then.

I've been having issues with this website called "Royal Jewels Of The World." Not the blog, but the website that actually showed the jewels from the various royal and aristocratic houses of Europe and Asia. If anyone knows anything about this, please contact me.
The sheer beauty and history of these jewels reminds me as to why monarchies aren't really all that bad. In all honesty it would be a desecration of I were to see people like Victoria Beckham and Charlotte Church or some piece of Hollywood fluff running around in those timeless treasures or riding drunkenly in the carriages.

If that is the site created by Daniel, I think that he was forced to take down all or most of its pictures over copyright disputes. Topic? One of my favorite sets of jewels is the Swedish sapphires. One of my least favorite is Queen Rania's emerald tiara. I will see if I can find a pic. ETA; Found it. My heart hurts for those missused emaralds.

Guin, you found some excellent jewelry porn!
Wow, that is gorgeous.
I like that one quite a bit too. It has a garland feel to it, like they're diamond-petaled-sapphire-centered flowers, without looking too rococo.
Yikes, it looks leftover from The Wizard of Oz.
