Dear Woman in the theatre where I saw Prometheus the other night: Please stop texting during the movie. That shit's distracting.

This doesn't involve a movie, but it's along the same lines. Last weekend I went to my granddaughter's dance recital. A woman sitting a couple of rows ahead of me turned on a flashlight at the beginning of every number and left it on long enough to read the names of the dancers in the number. The thing was blinding in itself and reflected off the program page. I don't know why she had to know the names of dancers she didn't know. I also don't know why she couldn't look at the program during the tie between numbers when the lights were out.

Totally unrelated, but I read the first line of your post as "my grandmother's dance recital, and thought what a cool woman she must be!

A month ago I went to a funeral for a friend and the sanctuary was so full it was standing room only. A woman standing in front of my was texting throughout the ceremony, even during the eulogy and sermon. She was in her 40s/50s- even the teenagers round me were pointing and whispering about it. I finally said something to her, loudly but politely, at the end of the ceremony. So disrespectful!

Good for you! Why on earth was she even there if she wasn't going to pay attention?
I'm picturing a lot of "AT A FUNERAL LOL" for some reason.

Oh, her excuse was that she was texting to her daughter who couldn't make it to the funeral. I was so gobsmacked I couldn't come up with a retort before the exiting crowd swept us apart. If I was quicker I would've told her I hoped her daughter had better manners than she did but she sure didn't have much of a role model in her mama.

If her daughter couldn't make it, it would have been better just to call her on the phone and leave the line open so she could hear the service. I mean, it would have been best to just stay off the damned phone, period, but lesser of two evils, you know.

I know a few people who have videotaped funerals for out-of-towners who couldn't attend.
Re: movie manners. It amazes me how noisy some people can be just getting popcorn out of a bag. Are they spelunking down in there? Good god.
