There was a glitch on the Oscars website & it was revealed Django got a nomination for costume design. Too bad no other nominees were revealed. VanityFair[/color]

The online voting/website was such a fiasco that they extended the deadline by 24 hours, so it doesn't surprise me too much that a glitch/leak happened.

Continuing the lack of front runners in some fields, the National Society of Film Critics went with Amour for Best Picture, Actress, and Director. And Matthew McConaugheyhey is back in the running with a Supporting Actor award for Magic Mike and Bernie, but not, I guess, Killer Joe. When was the last time we had this wide open a field in so many categories?

Supporting Actor is a toss-up, I'm thinking maybe Tommy Lee Jones or Christoph Waltz. Is Waltz being pushed for Supporting? I just saw Django and he's in the movie more than enough to be considered a lead. He has more dialogue than 1st-billed Jaime Foxx.

Waltz was thought to be supporting in Django, then pushed as a lead for a time, but then he started getting awards/nominations from supporting groups so that's where he'll likely end up come Oscar time, if he's nominated. The Best Supporting Actor category is really up in the air this year, the only locks are Tommy Lee Jones and Alan Arkin (for not doing very much admittedly but he's made the list for most of the precursors and would be Argo's only acting nomination).

DDL is probably the only lock for an actual Oscar win so far. I don't see anyone else having a chance at this point. The man will probably win another 2 Oscars in his lifetime, he is so not done ;-). And this would be the first win for an actor in a Spielberg film, right? I'm also predicting Emmanuelle Riva for Best Actress. Just a gut feeling because for some reason I can't picture Lawrence nor Chastain winning.
Best Supporting Actor is such an open race right now, I can't even predict noms. I don't even dare hoping for Leo, he missed out on that SAG nom.
As for Best Supporting Actress....I still can't stomach a Hathaway win (simply because I can't stand her - yes, I'm that childish) so I'm predicting Amy Adams if the Academy likes The Master. They certainly like Amy, this will be most likely her fourth Oscar nom in seven years, all of them in the Supporting category. So maybe they will actually give it to her this time.

If Waltz gets the lead nod, I'd want Dicaprio for the supporting nod. I thought he was amazing. He stole the movie.

Best Supporting Actor is perhaps the most interesting category to me. The main contenders are all previous winners and nominees who have things in their favor and things against them; Tommy Lee Jones is the only one I'm absolutely certain will be nominated - the others, I wouldn't be surprised if they got in, I wouldn't be surprised if they missed. It's been pretty widely reported that SAG didn't get to see Django (why late, Harvey?), so who the hell knows about the support Waltz and DiCaprio have; the film being a hit could help them, though. In Best Supporting Actress, it's hilarious that Nicole Kidman in The Paperboy appears to have been very surprisingly revived by the SAGs and Globes. DDL is probably the only lock for an actual Oscar win so far. I don't see anyone else having a chance at this point. The man will probably win another 2 Oscars in his lifetime, he is so not done ;-). And this would be the first win for an actor in a Spielberg film, right? It would. Before Lincoln opened I didn't think he could win a third for this, but then it ended up being a big hit and Spielberg's best reviewed film in about a decade, and the films of the other contenders have been fading. DDL has the respect, and Meryl being the one to hand him the Oscar could make for a good moment. I thought Adams had a shot too, but it really feels like after the early praise The Master has been underperforming. Emotional tearjerkers can be revived by the Oscars if the critics haven't awarded them, but if a cold smart film does poorly even with the critics that's not a good sign. The SAGs only nominated Hoffman and snubbed both Phoenix and Adams. Before DDL's reviews there was talk of Phoenix winning, now he might not be nominated if the Oscars go with SAGs Cooper/Day Lewis/Hawkes/Jackman/Washington instead.

Tom Hooper? I have to go see the freakouts at Awards Daily! But independent of King's Speech backlash, I think that is sort of a dodgy nomination as the direction of Les Mis was not one of its strong points.
