And we'll see how it goes with all the critics' awards, but I don't even think those two are a lock. There are no Jamie Foxxes, Helen Mirrens, Gwyneth Paltrows this year.

I'd say DDL is a lock. He has won best actor at every awards so far. The only time one of his "competitors" won (Hugh Jackman) is at the Golden Globes, because of the separation of genre. I would also say Hathaway is a lock; her not winning the Oscar would be a huge shock.
Best actress will be interesting, since it's been split between Lawrence and Chastain all along.

I think Supporting Actor is pretty up in the air too, no one of them have been winning everything. I'm betting it'll be either Jones or Waltz but even that's not for sure.

My predictions at this point. The BAFTAs and the DGAs are the only major ones left until the Oscars, right?
Picture - Argo. Affleck's snub seems to have really hit a nerve with the Hollywood folk as it's won everything in sight. The irony is that if this wins Best Picture, Affleck will win an Oscar since he's one of the producers. So much for that snub!
Director - Spielberg. Since they can't give it to Affleck or Bigelow, they'll give it to the biggest name on the list. Come and get your 3rd directing Oscar, Steven!
Actor - DDL. Speaking of 3rd Oscars, this is the biggest lock of the night. This guy gets a standing ovation for clearing his throat. His win will make give him the most Lead Actor Oscars in Academy history.
Actress - I'm going with JLaw. The SAG win gave her an edge over Chastain. If she wins the BAFTA too, she's a strong favourite.
S. Actor - It's really anybody's game. All five of them have Oscars already. I'll give it to Tommy Lee Jones because of his SAG win.
S. Actress - Anne Hathaway. Annoying or not, she's got in the bag.

I agree with most of these. (I'm still finalizing my prediction list for the eight important Oscars). I'm not sure about Jennifer Lawrence though. Two ingenues in one year? I'm thinking there might be a surprise and it goes to Emmanuelle Riva. Amour is nominated for several big awards and it won't win Picture or Director, and I don't see a foreign film winning Screenplay. That leaves lead actress as its only chance to win for something big.

I don't understand why people think Spielberg is going to win for Lincoln when it was much more a writer's movie than a director's movie. I really think Ang Lee should get his second for Life of Pi for putting together a stunning looking film from an unfilmable novel.

I don't understand why people think Spielberg is going to win for Lincoln when it was much more a writer's movie than a director's movie. I really think Ang Lee should get his second for Life of Pi for putting together a stunning looking film from an unfilmable novel. Because Speilberg is the most important, serious, meaningful director in the world, and "Lincoln" is a Big Important Movie about a Big Important Moment in American history and all about how slavery is bad. Ang Lee alerady won for the gay cowboy movie which should be his career Oscar. Besides, I can't think of a Directing Oscar going to the most technologically sophisticated movie in recent years. Last year, "Hugo" ( the first mainstream non-blockbuster movie filmed in3D) lost, and that was freaking Scorsese, the other greatest living director. Before that "Avatar" lost the directing Oscar, even though it was singlehanded lay responsible for ushering in the 3D movement and was also the highest-grossing movie of all time. And even "The Social Network" with all the pioneering stuff involving the Winklevoss twins, got nothing. Ang Lee will probably continue that trend. The nomination is his reward.

I thought Lincoln was really boring. I know I'm supposed to think really highly of it but I just didn't. I'm also tired of seeing the same actors win awards all the time, so if DDL has an upset, I'm cool with that too.

Ben won the DGA award last night. Does this mean Argo is a lock for Best Picture or does this end the apology tour for not being nominated? Inquiring minds want to know.
