I haven't seen it yet, but everyone is already saying that it is Eddie Redmayne's trophy to lose in The Theory Of Everything . Seeing as that he was the best part of Les Miserables and mostly went unnoticed, I'm glad for him.

I'm a huge fan of Benedicts' and I really like Michael Keaton, but I have no idea how they're going to top Eddie's performance. The physical transformation was incredible. Shades of DDL in "My Left Foot". Felicity Jones is marvelous too as Jane.

I'm assuming this "Hollywood Film Awards", just starting here on the West Coast, is a People's Choice Awards type show, and not really a precursor for anything. I haven't seen anything about this before, not even the nominations.

Yeah I'd never heard of this award ceremony until I saw commercials for it talking about what a huge deal it was.
I have such red carpet fatigue by the time the Oscars are over, I don't need one to watch this soon! Did anyone watch it all? Anything interesting?

It wasn't like award shows that have nominations, it played more like a banquet where everyone knew going in who was being honored. There were no other contenders announced. There were long video packages with clips and interviews of each winner before the award and many of the presenters were either friends with or had worked with all the honorees. It was kind of boring actually.

It was very dull, notwithstanding Johnny Depp's slurriness and Robert Downey Jr.'s usual Award Show Charm. Robert Duvall was given Best Supporting Actor for The Judge and then went on talking about... something for 10 minutes. The winners were already known. There was no spontaneity, except when Julianne Moore gave a shout out to Shailene that her daughter says "hello".
And there didn't seem to be any stars there, outside the ones who were presenting or winning. Angelina presented for Jack O'Connell for Unbroken as Best New Male Star, but was never seen in the audience the entire time. Same with Johnny Depp.
So very People's Choice Awards -ish.

It seems that there aren't nominees. You submit work for consideration and a winner is selected by a committee.

I'm excited that Jake G got recognition for Nightcrawler. Similarly I'm filled with glee that the shameless Oscar hustling of Reese for Wild & Jen for Cake got overlooked.
There seems to be confusion over whether The Imitation Game was eligible for consideration, apparently Harbey was proclaiming that it was, and yet it garner zero noms. So I'm not sure if it got "snubbed" or if it wasn't eligible.
