God I hope so. I haven't seen it yet (it doesn't go wide until January 16th, boo) but I so badly want her win a freaking Oscar already. I'm still annoyed that she got snubbed for The Kids are Alright.

Watched Still Alice last night, I think Julianne has the Oscar in the bag this year. I hope so. She's immensely talented and constantly overlooked. This film is on my to-see list.

I don't know why this awards season is slightly going on my nerves. Seeing this White People Only list doesn't do much to improve that feeling. And I'm saying this as someone who's happy for Cumberbatch and Redmayne.
There is a sense of samey-ness to many of this year's contenders. Maybe I haven't seen enough of them yet but I don't even feel like checking them out. I loved Boyhood but I feel as if it's mostly been applauded that much because of its unusual filming. How can this be the follow-up to something like 12 Years a Slave?

IDK, I think there are a lot of biopics among the major contenders, compared to last year, and Boyhood might stand out as refreshingly different to voters. It also got an early start for an Oscar movie, which can backfire if something else comes along that peaks at the right time, but at least everyone who votes on these things has seen it.

So is Amy Adams going to get yet another filler nom for the third time in a row? Ugh. Actor is an exciting category this year. Cumberbatch, Keaton and Redmayne seem secure, but the last two spots could go to any combination of Carrell/Cooper/Fiennes/Gyllenhaal/Oyelowo. Seeing this White People Only list doesn't do much to improve that feeling. Someone must have screwed up Selma's campaign. It's sad that it was apparently the only film with non-white contenders.

Selma isn't eligible for the Baftas this year. It opens in the UK in February.

Oscar noms are announced tomorrow. I've just read at two different places that Cumberbatch might not make the cut. That would be absolutely insane considering he has been nominated for everything else. The Oscar is Eddie's to lose but thrown Ben a nom at least ;-)
I'm thinking that there won't be more than seven Best Pic nominees. My No Guts, No Glory prediction is Cotillard making it in.

I trying to think of who or what will be the out of left field nomination that no one was seriously considering. Maybe Renee Russo for Best Supporting Actress for Nightcrawler? I have no idea.

If the Oscars were really about performances rather than campaigns, Brendan Gleeson would be nominated for Calvary. That film was tremendous and left me feeling melancholy for hours afterwards, and he was outstanding in it.
