I'm thrilled for Charlotte Rampling. (How the hell is this the woman's FIRST Oscar nomination?)

I'm surprised Aaron Sorkin wasn't nominated for Steve Jobs. Poor Idris Elba got snubbed again. I'm surprised neither he or Will Smith was nominated, if only so the acting field wasn't completely lily white.

Yeah, it is astonishingly white again this year. I haven't seen Concussion due my loathing of football so I can't say if Will's performance was Oscar-worthy or not. It'll be interesting to see if/how Chris Rock deals with that.
I'm not surprised Steve Jobs got largely shut out. It wasn't Sorkin or Boyle's best work, and I think the fictionalized story structure they went with worked against them. Fassbender and Winslet were pretty good though.
And Bryan Cranston! Too bad it's becoming Leo's year, because if he wins he'd be 3/4 of the way to an EGOT. And oddly enough he's both the oldest and the only first-time nominee in his category.

I'm surprised neither he or Will Smith was nominated, if only so the acting field wasn't completely lily white. Aaron got his career Oscar for A Few Good Men (by way of The Social Network). He doesn't need to be nominated for the 83rd Steve Jobs movie, that was barely released. As for Will Smith, Concussion didn't make back its budget and got middling reviews, and no one thought his accent was any good. Had it been a hit (I thought it would be, since it's basically Erin Brockovich) he would've been nominated for sure.

I guess they needed Chris Rock to host or else there wouldn't be any black people there. I think the Oscars get less relevant with each year.
And I think #Oscarssowhite is once again a hashtag.

True, however Steve Jobs tanked and Fassbender's accent was pretty questionable and he still got nominated.

I'm really surprised and saddened by Idris's snub, but Will Smith was never in this race.
I can't believe Jennifer Lawrence got another nom. Everything I've heard about "Joy" has been middling at best.
I too a thrilled for Charlotte Rampling! It was so deserved. I'm happy for the "Spotlight" and "Brooklyn" teams. I'm over the "Revenant".

That's how it is for women. There are so few lead female roles of the kind the studios deem Oscar-worthy, and so few actresses who get to breathe that rarefied air, that once you get an Oscar, they Just. Keep. Nominating you. Ask Meryl Streep. Or Nicole Kidman. Jennifer Lawrence could get nominated for a tampon commercial at this point, because Hollywood isn't willing to look beyond the usual prestige movies for acting, or to make more prestige movies that star women.
Also, why doesn't Leo DiCaprio get the same shade Anne Hathaway gets, when he's just as nakedly, desperately, begging?
I'm annoyed that Chris Rock is hosting, because that means I'm going to watch.

If Chris Rock had any balls, he'd refuse to host; tell them to get a white host to go along with the white show. I won't watch.

Seriously! Second year in a row that they have all-white nominees, right? Did they not pay heed after all the shit they got last year about it?
