Was it 2005 the last year a bunch of movies were nominated that the general public never had heard of? I have seen two of these movies but most people I know haven't heard of most of them. Doesn't make them bad movies, just means I know some people with narrow tastes in movies.

Mahershala Ali is a damn good actor, and I've heard nothing but amazing things about Moonlight, so I'm pulling for him. Also, he was one of the best things on Luke Cage this season, and deserved a nomination for that. Very shocking.

From an awards nomination perspective it's kind of a shame the lead role of that movie was played by three actors, it would be nice if they could all be co-nominated or something!

Joel Edgarton should have either Andrew Garfield or Viggo Mortenson's spot. I'm disappointed in the overall lack of noms for Loving, only Ruth Negga got one. It's a beautiful little movie that seems to have been largely forgotten in awards season.
I'm happy Hell or High Water did so well though I was not expecting it to get a Best Picture nod or for Jeff Bridges to be nominated, I thought Original Screenplay was all it would get.
And Boo Mel Gibson indeed. I don't even care who wins in his category as long as he doesn't. I feel the same way about Natalie Portman, as long as she doesn't win Best Actress I'll be happy.
Now I love Meryl Streep too but can we please stop nominating her for every freaking movie she does now? It's getting ridiculous.
