I hope Denzel pulls an upset and wins over Casey Affleck.

Kevin O'Connell is up for his nomination for Sound mixing for Hacksaw Ridge. If he wins, it will be his first... in 21 nominations, going back to Terms of Endearment. How's that for a double edged sword?

It looks like the Academy got the message from last year's #OscarsSoWhite protest. From People magazine:A commendable step in the right direction.

Poor Amy Adams was erroneously included in an early list as a Best Actress nominee for Arrival. She was an early pick for a nomination for either Arrival or Nocturnal Animals but was totally shut out. IMO she is a great and versatile actress, but makes it look effortless and not like she is acting. She doesn't need to gain/lose 50 lbs., get naked, or just get lucky with the part of a lifetime that have earned some other, less deserving IMO, actresses the statue. See also Winslet, Kate and Moore, Julianne who won way past their time.
Agree about Natalie, Meryl, & Denzel. I will, however, accept Hacksaw Ridge winning for sound mixing. 21 nominations and almost 35 years without a win is long enough.

I hope Denzel pulls an upset and wins over Casey Affleck. Uh, yes. Hell, I'd be fine with any other winner in that category. Maybe Brie will just read out Denzel's name, I think she hates Casey. I love the noms for Ruth Negga, Dev Patel (!), Andrew Garfield and Mahershala Ali whom I've loved since House of Card's first season. Also, I know there's a backlash against La La Land but I have a soft spot for Emma Stone, so I'm happy for her, too. I missed the noms when they were announced so went to check the announcement on YouTube a bit later. When I saw how they did that, I just looked for the list. What an underwhelming way to announce Oscar noms. Save former nominees' stories for the ceremony if that's your thing, AMPAS.

Just because I like her, though, I'm butthurt about Taraji not getting a nom. Admittedly, I haven't seen the movie yet, but like I said, I just really like her.

So does this make Justin Timberlake an official Oscar nominee?!? Mel Gibson should be banned from getting nominated.

I was hoping Taraji would squeak in there, but at least Hidden Figures did well overall.
And I'm so psyched that Dev Patel got nominated, Lion is a great movie. And apparently he's only the third actor of Indian descent to be nominated after Merle Oberon and Ben Kingsley. We still have a ways to go on the diversity front.

Yep, one of 'NSync is an Academy Award nominee. (Although they did have a nominated song with Music of the Heart. And I love that song, unashamedly! (But "Audition" should win.) Happy for Viola, Isabelle (so I don't have to listen to the screaming over at Film Experience. I haven't seen that yet.), Garfield, Viggo (HELLO LITTLE VIGGO!!!), but disappointed for No Hugh Grant or Ralph Fiennes ( A Bigger Splash, and HELLO LITTLE RALPH!). Now, Academy, give us a good show, and some surprises!!!

Yep, one of 'NSync is an Academy Award nominee. (Although they did have a nominated song with Music of the Heart. Diane Warren was the credited nominee on that one, so this would be Justin's first actual nomination.
