Any other high-profile peeps with more than one project?? Anne Thompson wrote about some of them in her blog a couple days ago. It's interesting to see how roles get moved around to maximize nomination potential (like the McEvoy/Plummer situation she mentions). The general consensus on Amelia seems to be that it's disappointingly safe and formulaic for a biopic on such a daring figure. It could go the Elizabeth: The Golden Age route, and Swank could end up with a nod despite it all, but I felt like Blanchett's nomination was a kind of atonement for her loss the first time around, whereas I don't think people feel like Swank is owed anything. What's the deal with Invictus? Everyone is assuming Freeman and Damon (in supporting) will be major players, and it's supposed to come out in December, but is there even a trailer for it yet? Things are awfully quiet.

Meryl only has 2 oscars and has been nominated in the double digits so unless Hillary was amazingly mind blowingly great (which I'm not getting from the stuff I've read on Amelia) then I can't see them giving it to her. I think Meryl is likely long overdue for another so unless they think someone like Carey in An Education is fantastic then I think it's Meryl's to lose.
Ugh. Kate Hudson's role in Nine was added in? Another reason for me to dislike her and avoid the movie like the plague. It'll be interesting to see who Harvey puts his money behind from that movie.
Funnily enough I just read something about Invictus on the awardsdaily site based on the script. The writer thinks that Freeman and Damon have a shot and and that if the field is weak that Clint could snag best picture and director nods. They do have 10 best picture slots to fill this year.
hunter - I love, love awards season so I concur with your glee over the coming months. Nothing pleases me better to see who is wearing what, who brings who to the red carpet, who gives the best drunken speech and who pulls off an upset.

Oh, I don't think Kate is an actual contender, I just was wondering why she was in the film. I do wonder who Harvey will push. I just find it hysterical that in a movie entirely populated with Oscar winners, the directors/writers also threw n Kate Hudson and Fergie Ferg. And how my reaction to "who doesn't belong," my instinct is "Kate Hudson."
The chicks on Go Fug Yourself essentially said the same thing and were like "wow, we like and feel genuine affection for Fergie now! Who woulda thunk!?" and I was all "I KNOW, right!? Remember when she was our disdained pee-pee pants tranny girl?!"
Plus, I think she's playing an actual prostitute, so it's kinda good use of her Humps, her Humps, her lovely lady lumps.
We should all start a Greecie run/contributed Goldderby-style blog for Awards Season! It'd be fun! Or we could just roundtable using our existing blogs!
Speaking of Oscars, Greecies and Bloggers, Diablo has been tweeting "at" Jason Reitman as he's making the festival circuit in Italy.
I assume he'll be nominated for Up in the Air - I really liked both Thank You for Smoking (except for KateBot) and Juno. He has a deft touch handling both comedic and dramatic moments.

I don't think Hillary will win or at least I don't see her winning based on people actually wanting to give it to her. But I guess I could see a freak accident happening wherein two or three very strong contenders cancel each other out and then she wins by default.....which would be hilarious. Then I hope Kanye breaks out of rehab and storms the Kodak theatre.

Speaking of Nine, I'm really looking forward to the inevitable OMG catfight! stories (both real and imagined) that are sure to pop up once the Weinstein's choose who to throw their weight behind. Cause if there's one thing I love more than awards season, it's awards season bitchery.
I read somewhere that Anne Hathaway and Cameron Diaz auditioned for Hudson's role, but were passed over. Which makes her casting even more confusing.

Especially since we know Anne can sing from SNL and last year's Oscars! WTF indeed.
On the catfight mode, I wonder if there is any resentment or awkwardness between Penelope/Javier/DDL/the filmmakers since Javier dropped out suddenly claiming "exhaustion."
I kind of wish they had gone with Antonio.
Interrupting Kanye would be GOLD - "yo yo yo, Hillary, you were dope and imma let you finish, but I just got to say that Annette Bening gave one of the greatest performances of all time."

"Yo Hil I'm really happy for you and I'm gonna let you finish but Meryl Streep had the best acting of all time! OF ALL TIME!" Though huntergrayson's works too. I'm one of those that gave Kanye a hard time but man if he did interrupt Hilary I would be dying of laughter.
It would be so wrong if Hilary somehow got a 3rd Oscar. Kate Winslet, a much more versatile and talented actress, only has 1 and she got it on her 5th try! I think what annoys me the most about Amelia is that it's such a transparent attempt for an Oscar grab. So, I basically want it to blow up in her face.

I feel that way about Swank too that she's more like a Kevin Spacey or Sally Field. They could be nominated or win again, but I think it's more likely they'll just go 2 for 2, which certainly isn't a bad thing. I just don't see them showering her with nominations like they have the C/Kates recently. Of course, sometimes they do that as a way of showing that they didn't make a mistake in awarding someone, but usually they do it to make up for not awarding a person earlier (see Blanchett and PSH). 10 Best Picture Nominees+Clint Eastwood directing+End of year release could = another M$B. I really can't see Eastwood winning three Best Directing Oscars especially as he just won recently. However, I think he's a safe bet for a nomination as are Freeman and Damon; although I don't really think the movie will be competitive at all because of Eastwood and Freeman winning recently. Freeman's award felt like a lifetime achievement type of two-for-one deals that they like to give, so I can't see him winning again. Had he not won for M$B, I think he would be a lock, but right now I think it's probably between George Clooney, Colin Firth, and perhaps a surprise candidate (Hal Holbrook?, Christopher Plummer if goes lead?, Jeremy Renner?). If Damon goes supporting, I don't think they'll want to him award him there because he's such a big star. They could, but I think it will go to a veteran actor perhaps Christopher Plummer if he does go supporting which I'm not sure exactly how that works since Helen Mirren is being pushed for leading, and I thought their roles were both leading; although I'm not entirely sure about that. If Damon does go leading, I think he would have a great shot of winning. Yes, and I guess they cut the title song out too, which doesn't make any sense to me either. As for whom Harvey will promote, I heard that Marion Cotillard will be placed in leading as not to compete with her Public Enemies performance, and I'm guessing that Dame Judi Dench and Penelope Cruz will be pushed the most out of the other ladies. Cruz because she just won, and because she has the best musical number at least from what I've read, and Dench because she's so beloved by the Academy. . That's a great idea. I wouldn't mind contributing if we do decide to do it.

The general consensus on Amelia seems to be that it's disappointingly safe and formulaic for a biopic on such a daring figure. I heard that too and I think the Academy falls, more often than not, for safe and formulaic films (even though they sometimes don't look like it at first - like M$B, Crash, A Beautiful Mind). Which is why I still believe that Hilary and Amelia are going to sneak in.

I'm loving the blog idea - it might be fun to keep it year-round for various awards show predictions/coverage (like Emmy or Grammy predictions! Or VMA coverage since the threads here are so hysterical - maybe do like a recap with the funniest greecie lines inserted, our Best/Worst outfit pics!) - but what on earth would or should we call it?
I only hope this will inevitably lead to us being trying to be wooed or swayed by various stars and studios. Does Clooney do housecalls?
