The last film I saw (legally) in a theater was The Hurt Locker. I'm glad it is receiving the accolades it truly deserves.
I thought its nominations from last year's Independent Spirit Awards might hurt its chances, because it really is a 2008 film, but I was wrong.

Very interesting.... didn't know it was nominated last year for ISA! Hunter... get ready to cheer! Kate's song was indeed nominated!!

Cotillard's character has an original song too (which is miles better than that Kate Hudson hot mess they're pimping out, but too plot driven and not peppy enough to be used in marketing materials), but it hasn't been nominated for anything so far. Given that it's staged as a strip tease that takes on this almost-gangbangy vibe (which is both as creepy as it sounds and one of the best parts of the movie, who knew?), if I were her I'd be glad to sit this one out.
Sophia Loren's song is new too, but I think it uses music that was already in the score, so it probably is ineligible. She doesn't even pretend to be able to sing, so I can't even imagine how she'd fair live.
Hopefully with the Hudson song they just do what they normally do and give it to Beyonce to perform.

Globe noms!!! (LOL at double noms for Matt Damon, Sandra Bullock and of course Meryl Streep. Love the HFPA ). Kinda random noms for Emily Blunt and Julia Roberts, no? But they love both so I don't know why I'm surprised. They gave Blunt a double nom a few years ago and she actually won.

Most importantly, Ricky Gervais is hosting and he's promised to be drunk!
I know it's unpopular but I am so fucking over Meryl Streep. No, I haven't seen Julie & Julia or It's Complicated yet, but let's be honest, do I really need to? Fucking awards organizations and critics will nominate her the moment she appears on-screen. In anything. If she had done Gigli? Probably still would have been nominated. Both Seyfried and Baranski were way better in Mamma Mia than she was. But they're not Meryl Fucking Streep, The Greatest! Actress! Ever! Of! Our! Time!
I'm so sick of hearing about how great she is for the last 30 years. Yes, she seems like a nice lady. And, yes, she is mildly talented. And, oh yeah, it sure is nice for a woman in her 50s to be a box office draw. But, seriously, I get it. She's the most amazing thing since celluoid was invented. Do we have give her a handjob everytime she deigns to step foot in front of a camera?
Seriously, all the ads for It's Complicated make it seem like the worst kind of rom-com schlock. And just because it's schlock with an A-List cast doesn't make it less schlocky. At least (500) Days of Summer was a fresh take on the genre and I'm glad it's getting recognition.
Meanwhile, I need to get to a theatre and rent Inglorious Basterds today because, sadly, the only films I've seen on that list are (500) Days of Summer and The Hangover. But YAY for JGL's nom. He was so good.
Now I'm off to check the TV noms...
Bigelow v. Cameron: it's ON!, motherchuckers.

Julia Roberts? WTF (Why The Face?)?!?!?!?!?
I haven't seen it yet but I'm liking the love for Avatar. Genre films traditionally get overlooked but LOTR helped a lot in overcoming those attitudes.

She will win that Oscar this time because she was nominated last year and people were starting to say she should win because of her oh-so-adorable speech at the SAG awards The same people who were bashing poor old Kate Winslet for being over-emotional after having won two Golden Globes. Streep is the one thing I don't like about this year's Oscar season. Anyway, I hope Joseph Gordon-Levitt has a shot at an Oscar nom

It'd be awesome if he got a Razzie nomination too for G.I. Joe, just to bring him back down to Earth. He was terrible (along with pretty much everyone else) in that movie.

Melanie Laurent should've gotten one for Inglourious Basterds -- I thought she was amazing in that film.
