Oh, me too! The sound is pretty bad on that Korean DVD though.
Okay, I never saw it, hate Eastwood, Swank, Haggis, etc.. But the Million Dollar Baby DVD was on sale at Virgin for 10 bucks. I figured the satisfaction I will get by taking a hammer or blowtorch to it after I watch it will be worth it, no?

The S2 DVD of Twin Peaks IS totally coming, y'all. Within the next year or so, I think. It is a rights issue and has nothing to do with Lynch. The company that did distribute collapsed, was bought out, whatever. I think Paramount (ick!) is in charge now, but they are going to do it, complete with reissuing S1 (the current DVDs have FLAWLESS transfers) and maybe the American Pilot. According to TV Shows on DVD.com, which I always find informative and relatively reliable, Season Two may be late November. Now, I offered you a Region 1 Lost Highway, young man. (Yeah, it's pan and scan, which bites. It was also $4 CDN in the bargain bin at the grocery store. I accept flaws at that price. Now, if I can only figure out how I made sense of the damned movie the first time, but that's another thread.)

Lynchnet reports, with a grain of salt, as in don'tholdyerbreath, that S2 of Twin Peaks will be released in North America on 21 November. Regarding the release, perhaps my "bare-bones" pessimism is unwarranted:

Am I nuts? I could have sworn I read in the New Yorker a while back that there was going to be a new edition of GREY GARDENS. Does anyone know about this? I'm also looking for THE KRAYS on DVD and can't find it for the life of me.

You mean I can FINALLY get my Peaks on?? I never bought season 1 because I wanted the whole thing, dammit. If this turns out to be true I'm going to sit down and weep with happiness.

I'm also looking for THE KRAYS on DVD and can't find it for the life of me. I love the The Krays! For some reason they won't release it on DVD in the U.S. so I ordered the original region 2 DVD from Amazon.co.uk. They put out a special collector's edition of the region 2 DVD late last year. If you google a bit, you'll find out how to hack your DVD player to play region 2 DVDs.

Now Lost Highway...there's a problem. I've even considered getting a region free player for this and other movies, but the PAL speedup would fuck up the awesome soundtrack pretty badly. Yeah, the Lost Highway situation is annoying. I've heard that only the Dutch (I think?) version is actually any good. The British one could certainly be better. It's great news about Twin Peaks though. Paramount do have a reputation for taking a looong time to release things, but at least now we know it's definitely going to get a release eventually. Apparently, Don't Look Now is going to be re-released soon and all I can say is about damn time. I don't know if anyone here's had the joy(!) of watching the R2 version but the sound quality is just about the worst I've ever heard (as in it sounds like they recorded the sound off a TV playing in another room) and the picture quality on the R1 is pretty poor so, at the moment, it's a no-win situation really.

I know, right?! Especially since gorgeous images like this would really suffer in pan-and-scan. (Sorry, spordelia. Oh, and it's Lynch's very abstract take on OJ Simpson, btw.) With regards to Grey Gardens, there is going to be a rerelease eventually from Criterion but people suspect that it's being delayed in part because (a) to time it with the musical on Bway and more likely (b) to let the "sequel" (the feature-length movie prepped for the DVD) have a brief theatrical run I may kick back with the gorgeous, gorgeous new 3-Disc Seven Samurai this evening.
