I used to watch A Christmas Story every year, then the TBS marathons killed that love. I didn't think it could happen, but there really can be too much of a good thing.

First a sound thrashing, then a banning! For the first time in a million years, our Thanksgiving plans include... sitting on our butts, just relaxing. I'm trying to think of Thanksgiving-appropriate movies, but other than Charlie Brown, I'm drawing a blank. Suggestions?!

Home for the Holidays--better than the critics would have you believe Planes, Trains, and Automobiles--John Candy and Steve Martin are hilarious Pieces of April--starring everyone's favorite zombie clam-bride, Katie Holmes (she's actually not that bad in this--she still had some personality, apparently)

I second the rec for Home for the Holidays, Anne Bancroft is great and Dylan McDermott is super-cute in it.

It's a wonderful life. ALWAYS. and Elf. There was also JT, a tv special. About a boy and a homeless cat. Great acting but don't watch it, you'll be traumatized. I posted about JT elsewhere here. I loved that special. But yeah, make sure you've got lots of Kleenex nearby.

Oh, ABC Family has Holiday in Handcuffs coming up! Goofy holiday movie with Melissa Joan Hart, the celebrity that I just can't help but adore. Also, AMC is showing National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation all week.
Has anyone seen Four Christmases? It looks like it could be good, I have a soft spot for Reese, but I think Vince Vaugn is better as the funny sidekick, rather than leading man.

I just watched Christmas in Rockefeller Center on my PVR. HORRIBLE! Jane Krakowski singing with LL Cool J? It was craptastic.
Michael Buble is a personal fav...but this performance was bizarre. He didn't seem to know what to do with his arms. They cut away to clips of Marines coming home. Thank God.
And Aretha Franklin....don't go strapless when your boobs are covered in stretch marks. High def, not your friend.
ETA: this likely belongs in the Television category.....but is there one for t.v holiday specials?

I have an unpopular opinion coming up: I loved Home for the Holidays when I was younger but watched it again recently and couldn't summon up any laughter at all. Just not funny.

Thursday night at 8 pm - I'm there. Then Sunday there is a new original - Santa Baby 2. Stars Jenny McCarthy, who I love, too. I bet it will be another good one.
