Can you believe that there was a time in the 70s that most 'Merkin Rednecks didn't know Freddie was gay? Well, it shouldn't surprise you. The power of Americans' denial is enormous. I mean, this guy had to come out too. Oh and topic? I have loved Queen since Bohemian Rhapsody was on the top 40. My God, that was in the mid-70s.

Wordy McWord. Queen II is the shit. So many layers to that album, so many interwoven styles of music. As stupid as the title is, I love "The Fairy Feller's Master Stroke" the most. OK, maybe I love it for the title too. Other favorites from other albums: Death on Two Legs (sing that to your boss sometime) Tenement Funster Dreamer's Ball (unashamedly romantic and loopy) I'm in Love with my Car Back in the late 70's day, if you didn't listen to disco or KISS there wasn't much else, but there was always Queen. Their music saved my SoCal teen ass from a life of polyester and boogie. Thank you, Queen, for being the small voice of clarity in an otherwise jarring decade!

Freddie had one of the best voices of all time. When I build my Concert Time Machine (for seeing artists that died before I was born or before I could see them), Queen with Freddie will be the first one I see. I love that the same band that did the fun-naughty-clever "Killer Queen" (She keeps her Moet et Chandon in her pretty cabinet / 'Let them eat cake' she says, just like Marie Antoinette...) also did something as heartbreaking as "Somebody to Love" (my personal favorite).
That is awesome.
