This thread is for (mostly) correcting some of the more egregious errors made in historical cinema. The title is (of course) dedicated to the character assignation committed against Antonio Salieri in the movie Amadeus.

Maybe your're right Topher. You can change it, being the moderator and all that.

All of Braveheart, except the execution. Bloody awful and annoying.

Back in the days of the Other Site, Pearl Harbor owned this thread. It was so bad that it spawned its own cliche: "Ben Affleck wins WWII riding on a pterodactyl" or something

If it's got Mel Gibson and The English...
I'm suprised the people nailing Jesus to the cross weren't all "Hold steady old chap! You've made me spill me tea! And we've got to massacre a few hundred children and puppies before tiffin."

I am *crazy* about Rabbit Proof Fence. As an Aussie it's close to my heart, and plus it's a part of our history that isn't all kangaroos and ultra-tanned surfers. I love my home, but we have dark elements of our past just like any other country, and this movie showed one of them very accurately and very powerfully. Sorry for the lack of snark! However, I will echo the Braveheart hate. According to my big bro, who's a history buff, that movie should practically be considered fiction, since so much of it was made up. And, I'm going to add to this by saying The Messenger, that horrible Jean d'Arc movie with Milla Jovovich...Jean was a *saint*, not a heroin addict!

Ugh, Braveheart! When I was doing a semester in London, I mentioned something about trying to visit a certain Robert the Bruce-themed location (some abbey or other, I forget, I didn't make it anyway). My fellow American housemates all blubbered "but, Robert the Bruce? He killed Mel Gibson!!" Grr. Which reminds me, I really like Year of Living Dangerously and would say that that is a good historical movie, although my knowledge about political Indonesia is very limited and am curious to know how accurate it is.
Anyway. I also love Rabbit-Proof Fence.
