Reminds me of, I think Gwyneth Paltrow, who said the it's easier raising children having a 9 to 5 job than being a movie star, because movie stars have hard shoots at night and need to be away from your kids. So we are like, yeah. You get paid $10,000,000, but you have to work at night sometimes. As if they are doing night shoots 5 days a week/ 52 weeks out of the year. Sheesh. Paltrow never disappoints with her stupidity.

Matthew Perry, in his new autobiography, really screws the pooch with this weird, and frankly mean-spirited, take on River Phoenix's, Heath Ledger's, and Chris Farley's deaths:
After the world basically went "WTF, why are you namechecking a beloved person like Keanu in this way?" he issued an equally WTF apology:
Gee, ya think?

Everybody loves Keanu now, but hating on him was pretty popular in the 90s. (I'm a recent convert to liking Keanu.) Maybe Matthew is stuck in the past and didn't realize that Keanu-as-punchline is no longer something people are into or would even realize is a joke?
Matthew has been trying to destroy himself for decades, and it must be because he hates himself. There's really no other explanation. So his apology is kind of sad. He's on a book tour discussing his addictions and ostensibly he's sober right now, but he's obviously not through struggling.

I will always have a soft spot for him due to Bill and Ted. But yeah, bad move, Mr. Perry. Also a bad way of reminding people you exist. Regardless of whether people love Keanu now, it is still a mean thing to say.

Not only did Matthew write it, an editor left it in, and then Matthew left it in during the rewrites…he’s only regretting it because he got called out on it.

I was totally on board to read the Matthew Perry book because he was my favorite on Friends and I did want to read how he battled addiction but the quotes the media has latched onto about Keanu, Valerie Bertinelli, and Cameron Diaz are making me reevaluate.

I assume he was trying to be funny, but it didn’t work? That’s all I’ve got. 🤷♀️ I’d still like to read his book.

I read the NYT interview of Matthew Perry from a few days ago, and honestly, the book (and his life) sound so bleak. I think I'll pass. I don't need a deeply depressing read to bring me down. (Just reading Mary Rodgers' recently published posthumous memoirs last week was depressing enough for me.)
Mean and petty comments about Keanu, but I agree with Ginger, I think that's his self-loathing coming out. He is obviously a deeply troubled person. Not an excuse, of course, but it's an explanation.

Matthew has a 20/20 interview tomorrow night with Diane Sawyer. They’ve been previewing it on Good Morning America. Yes, a lot of self-loathing. 55 Vicodin a day!!! Started drinking at 14, thinking “this is what normal people feel like when they’re happy”

I honestly didn’t understand the point he was trying to make. Why does Keanu walk amongst us? I don’t know, maybe because he never did enough drugs to explode his colon and require 14 surgeries?
I’ve seen a meme going around asking why people expect Appalachian hillbillies to be able to get clean when $9 M hasn’t done Matthew Perry much good.
(The point is that if someone with as many resources and as much support as Matthew Perry can’t get off opioids how are people who’ve been kicked out of their homes and are living check to check supposed to access rehab. I live in Appalachia so people are just trying to draw attention to the crisis here AND dump on J.D. Vance).
