I understand Tiffany's take, even though I'm not going to get behind the whole thing being "beautiful".
She's Jada's friend and was over there with Jada after it happened while Will's publicist was doing crisis management with him, so she's going to be supportive.

So the prevailing thought is that Jada can’t “protect” herself?

It's only been a few hours since That Slap and already Tiffany Haddish is the front runner for the stupidest take on it. (I'm on Team They Both Should Apologize myself.) Ok, you left out the dumbest part of Tiffany's quote. It's too vulgar and trashy for me to quote here.

She's such an idiot. She might as well have said "I can't say my joke, but people are allowed to rob grocery stores" for how apt her comparison is. Also, what happened at the Oscars wasn't scripted and no matter how ~traumatized Amy claims to be I think the family of Halyna Hutchins would be more horrified to hear their loved one's death be used as a punchline.

I'm assuming the punch line of that "joke" was supposed to be shock value because the joke makes no sense and it certainly isn't funny. Producers are supposed to cut jokes that aren't funny. And on top of that, it also happens to be in terrible taste, making light of someone being shot to death.
The Oscar show as a whole was better than I expected. Even the three hosts worked out better than I'd thought it would. But just as I was settled in and enjoying the show, about a half hour before the end, Amy Schumer interrupted the proceedings to remind us all that the world sucks. She just threw in rambling shit about war going on and women and trans people being oppressed. That's the kind of crap I was bracing for when Amy threatened to bring President Zelenskyy on. I had finally relaxed and let my guard down, and then she pulled that shit. It wasn't clever, it wasn't appropriate, and it served no purpose except to intentionally bring people down.
She sucks.

If she wanted to do a "Don't Look Up" joke she could've said something like "this movie is about climate change; the original title was "Don't Look Up Leo's Carbon Footprint."* Why she would ever think joking about an awful on set death is funny just shows how far up her own ass she is in thinking she's edgy. *Not my joke, I saw someone tweet it

In a recent interview she gave about suffering a miscarriage, Alicia Vikander offered up this great insight - "Sometimes you go through things that are tough in life and if you have an office job you can step away for a bit. But there are times that myself or colleagues have been through something and, well, I can't understand how they went on to the red carpet afterwards," she added. "To be met by people asking, 'How are you doing?' Given what they had just been through? Most people would not be able to step out of their house."
If she was trying to make herself relatable, I think she failed. She missed out on having her eyes opened to how many people with those office jobs (or even more strenuous jobs where they struggle not just recovering emotionally but physically) don't have the option of stepping away.

Reminds me of, I think Gwyneth Paltrow, who said the it's easier raising children having a 9 to 5 job than being a movie star, because movie stars have hard shoots at night and need to be away from your kids. So we are like, yeah. You get paid $10,000,000, but you have to work at night sometimes.
