Ebertfest is going on this week. It is also being livestreamed: Ebertfest Ustream[/color]. Ebert himself is moderating right now (10:45 CST).

Anyone in NYC checking out Tribeca? It's on till May 2. I wanted to see Sons of Perdition, a documentary about kids who escaped from LDS, but tickets sell out fast on any films with good buzz. Hopefully it'll get a wider release.

I love going to the Toronto filmfest every year in Sept. It's nice to see movies months - and sometimes years before they hit the theatres.

A (former) male friend of mine goes to Toronto every year. He basically sees everything the year before it's in theaters, but then pays to see them again in wide release. Too bad he's a d*ck, he was a great movie buddy. Actually, it was a tossup between Toronto and Montreal last year and the Montreal Jazzfest won due to my friends' insistence. That may be another solo trip in 2011.

Robin Hood premiere at CannesI know I've said it before, but Kate Beckinsale used to be so pretty. WTH happened? Cate's dress is excellent. Salma would make me switch teams... (I didn't see another thread for discussing Cannes fashion, so please let me know.)

Haneke's 'Amour' wins the Palme d’Or and I was happy to see that Mads Mikkelsen won the prize for best actor. I discovered him this spring after watching After The Wedding and Prag I just love him. I can't wait for The Hunt to make it to the U.S.

I'm a bit surprised at that, actually, just because some of the critics I read HATED The Hunt. But I guess just because a film is divisive or controversial doesn't mean the acting will be - Dunst won for Melancholia, after all. My friend thought Holy Motors had a good Palme chance. One of the reasons I like Cannes is that it seems like the races just so quickly - not the march to inevitability of awards season. The trailer for Holy Motors is here and it looks nuts and very Lynchian.
