I liked the books, a lot, but yeah when I realized that Michael Blomqvist bedded every woman in the story (seriously, if she was female and met him they were sleeping together...when did he have time to do anything else?) it sort of took me out of the story.

I haven't read any of the books but I liked the first film and just watched the second film. I'll probably have to watch it again because I was doing other things. It struck me as not quite as good as the first one but good enough. Reviews for the third film don't sound very promising but I'm sure I'll watch it when it comes on Netflix.

I've read mixed reviews about the third film. I've heard complaints because there isn't as much action and Lisbeth is sidelined for a lot of it because of what happened in the second film and it's pretty dense because they spend a lot of time unraveling the conspiracy. But I'll definitely watch it on Netflix.
I haven't read the books yet, but one thing I'm sort of amused about is [spoilers]Lizbeth is on trial in the third movie for the attempted murder of her father, and all I can think is "Really?" Yes, murder is bad, but they shot her in the head and then buried her alive! You'd think that they would go easy on her, or at least she'd be able to argue that she wasn't thinking clearly due to the damn bullet in her brain![/spoilers]

I read the books and much of what went on in the 2nd and 3rd one didn't make much sense in the legal sense. I'm guessing there's a bit of a disconnect from the Swedish and US justice system cause some of that stuff would never fly in the US.

Yeah I saw the 3rd movie in theater (after watching the 1st and 2nd within a span of a few days), and there's just not much action at all. It is actually strange to see Lisbeth sitting for such long periods of time. I watched a midnight showing so I accidentally dozed off during some parts, but I don't think I missed much.
Some of the court scenes made no sense to me as someone who is accustomed to US-style proceedings.

I watched the second movie last night. Yeah...they can remake that all they want cause I thought it was pretty bad. I didn't think the first one was great but compared to the second, it's Oscar worthy.
I know it was made for TV but released to theaters when the first did well but it looks cheap even for that. Outside of Noomi, the acting is crap all around. The actors playing Blomkvist, Berger and Miriam Wu are horrid. And I know this is shallow, but they are just not attractive. That actually goes for everyone in these films. It's a collection of the roughest looking actors ever. Not that they need a Depp or Pitt but was there no one at least decent looking?
So I don't think I can sit through the third one as the book was boring enough.

Granted, it was kind of overboard to do to a 10-year-old, but if she's bold enough to set a car on fire, she'd obviously need to be broken so she didn't spill on the details of who her father was. I did feel, though, they could have have written it so there weren't so many 'hooks' out to what would have been theoretically later stories (as the author intended, perhaps?), such as: > The doctor (who was quite a hottie) taking an interest in Lisbeth. Almost to the point of making him a potential love interest. And speaking of: he gave her a book and told her to read a particular section. I was waiting for them to tell me what was actually IN the book. And the whole Lisbeth/Micke/Erika triangle felt a little...unresolved. Oh, and hinting at the story behind her tattoo.[/nitpick] Sorry, takes away from the movie for me if it feels like it's hinting at something to come when it doesn't happen.

I think I heard that the author had a lot of ideas and such for future books with Lisbeth, et al. before he passed away, and they aren't sure if they are going to turn them into books or not. That may explain why some things feel unresolved or things feel set up but never really addressed.

Saw this last night. I didn't know anything about it beforehand other than it was a murder mystery and Liz Salander was "tough". I thought it was ok. Not fantastic, but better than average. The remake won't be as good, they'll redo the Liz Salander character and soften her up. Heck, Christopher Nolan butchered Insomnia and couldn't show the detective and the dog and the remake of Let the Right One In couldn't keep the gender reveal. I predict Hollywood will go three for zero on remaking good Swedish movies. (or was Insomnia from Norway?)
