Pretty sure it was called Private Valentine. At least, I saw a DVD cover with Jessica in uniform with that title. And, btw, I was a Marine 27 years ago, and we were FAR from Private Benjamins even then.

Now that Karate Kid is Number 1, I shudder to think what other remakes will be greenlit that were just rumors before.

And, btw, I was a Marine 27 years ago, and we were FAR from Private Benjamins even then. It was both - the theatrical release was "Major Movie Star" and the DVD was retitled "Private Valentine". They probably figured that was the only way anybody would get suckered into renting it.

"Private Valentine" sounds like the name of a soft-core porn movie.

Jonah Hill is rumored to take over the lead from Elisabeth Shue for "Adventures in Babysitting"? Are you shitting me? Speaking of babysitting movies, I just found this headline: 'Babysitter's Dead' remake in the worksI vaguely remember seeing the original. The movie is not that old; why does it have to be remade?

Grr. I loved that movie!
"The dishes are done, man!" Classic!
I guess it's the type of movie that could be remade, but I think there are too many hoops you have to jump through to try and prove who you really are before you fake that you're over 21 and a skilled fashion designer. Ugh.

For whatever reason, I was looking up the cast for the Red Dawn remake, and it looks like Connor Cruise is in it. With this and Jaden Smith's Karate Kid, it's giving me a nagging feeling that a handful of these movies are being re-made as vanity projects. Actor's kids probably have seen these movies and "played them" in their backyards, and their families have enough money to get them to star in remakes, or bank roll them altogether.
I "played" plenty of movies with my friends when I was growing up, and wanted to be in Goonies and The Neverending story, but that's never something that was taken seriously, obviously. I think that's what rubs me the wrong way about the Karate Kid so much, I feel like I can picture the conversation in the Smith house, "You like this movie? Let's remake it so you can star in it. Would that make you happy?" It just seems like an extreme case of spoiled brat-itis.
