And I spent most of the movie contemplating how insanely gorgeous the girlfriend was. She looked straight of an 80s movie, if Angelina Jolie hadn't already done that biopic of Gia Carangi back in the day, this girl would have been perfect. Yes! She reminded me of Jennifer Beals in Flashdance. Her name is Eiza Gonzalez. I liked how Peter Dinklage's height was never mentioned and wasn't a plot or character point at all. His character could've been played by an actor of any height, so I really liked the progressive casting. I kind of wish they'd focused a little more on Dianne Wiest and the powerlessness of a pretty active and alert elderly person being robbed of all possessions, agency and communication. That is something that is relatable, but we got the scam and mafia plot. Yes, I felt like the movie branched out from the original premise and it was entertaining as a movie, but not quite the one I was expecting. And I didn't find the resolution to that original story very satisfying.

Eiza Gonzalez really does look like Flashdance-era Jennifer Beals. So gorgeous!
I think my favorite scene with Dianne Wiest was when RP goes to see her to find out what her deal is and she realizes she missed her monthly meeting with her son and she says "ooooh, you're in trouble" or something like that.

I watched Elizabeth: The Golden Age the other night. Gorgeous costumes, gorgeous scenery, and Cate Blanchett's one-liners, VERY pretty on the eyes.

I watched the Netflix Dirty Money Guardianship episode (which might have been pulled?!?) and had really hoped that this movie would examine the real consequences of guardianship. And looked at the whole messed up system wherein your estate is charged for both sides lawyers, doctors, everything, and how impossible guardianship is to reverse because of it. That Netflix episode shook me, and I had really hoped that an "entertaining" movie might have opened up a more thorough discussion of the practice. Instead it kind of fizzled into a chase movie. Too bad, there was a lot of potential there

I watched "I Care A Lot" last night. Boy howdy, you have to suspend disbelief a lot to get passed the huge plot holes, but the performances are great (Rosamund Pike is basically playing an alternate universe version of Amazing Amy) and it kept me interested. I watched this also and really had a hard time with the reality of her scheme. I know this has happened in real life but the judge seemed to roll over every time. Wouldn’t he or some other authorities get suspicious with her amassing all of these wards? I also didn’t care for the ending. But her performance was good and the film kept my attention. This article explains how her scheme is absolutely possible: www.newyorker.com/magazine/2017/10/09/how-the-elderly-lose-their-rightsHeartbreaking

20th Century Women. Seriously, how does Annette Bening not have an Oscar? She's just so natural in everything she does. Elle Fanning was also really good in this, though I have to say I much prefer Greta Gerwig the director to Greta Gerwig the actress.

She was freaking stunning and played the role so well that I spent the entire movie having to convince myself that yes, this sweet, lovely woman was really doing all the evil things she was doing. I've been a fan ever since.

I’m still pissed she didn’t win for American Beauty.

Has anyone watched Raya and the Last Dragon? I shelled out the extra $34.99 on Disney+ last night to watch this with my kids because I was very curious/excited to see the depiction of Southeast Asian culture (my kids are half-Filipino through me). We enjoyed it a lot and I'm looking forward to watching it a few more times to catch more details. I admit that I loved the all the martial arts scenes with the girls/women smacking each other down! The characters are voiced by mainly East Asian actors from what I read; would have been great to give more Southeast Asian actors that opportunity.

I'm trying to watch the Snyder Cut of Justice League and this movie just really illustrates the huge difference between the Marvel and DC movies. I'm really trying to like the Snyder Cut but it's so hard. I'm already looking past the fact that the actors they have playing the heroes are so unlikeable, but the pacing just seems off. It's not cohesive. And the movie is 4 hours long because they slow mo'd way too many of the effects, if we cut the slow motion, we could probably save a good 30 minutes from the movie. Has anyone watched Raya and the Last Dragon? I watched Raya when it came out. I loved it. Disney has really improved on writing strong female characters, I love that these women don't need to be saved. Obviously, the fact that the main characters are Southeast Asians is awesome. A lot of Americans don't have diversity in their life. For a company, like Disney, to expose those people to characters that look different than they are is remarkable. It exposes people to the different cultures, different looks, and it shows them that different isn't bad. Hopefully, it builds a more tolerant younger generation that's more accepting of our differences. Sameness is boring, just my opinion.
