Is Edward this bad too? Jeez, the queen should have called it quits after Charles and Anne. The world didn't need a "spare" like this! Didn't Philip want to do just that? I've read it was Elizabeth who wanted more children. Edward got into a controversy with his production company filming William around St. Andrews. Sophie was also busted in one of those News of the World exposés with a phony sheik where she seemed to be using her royal status to boost her client list. Even in regular families, sometimes if there are two sets of children a decade apart in age, the parents are more lenient on the younger siblings than the older ones. Add in growing up royal and it's a recipe for spoiled bratdom.

Who does Prince Andrew resemble? Royal genes tend to be fairly strong, but I don't really see anyone in Andrew.
Prince Phillip is a ringer for his father, Prince Andrew; Prince Charles resembles both his maternal grandfather and Prince Phillip; Princess Anne looks like a feminine version of Prince Phillip; Prince Edward looks like the male version of Queen Elizabeth (and his daughter looks like a blonde version of Elizabeth).
But Andrew has really heavy features that don't come from either parent, or from any of the grandparents, but both of his daughters have them as well.

Now that he's getting older, he looks like a fatter version of Prince Philip. At first, I thought he looked like his mother, but now I see a resemblance to Philip.

ETA: It has crossed my mind about the notion that Andrew only divorced Sarah because he was forced by The Firm to do so. They were content, apparently, with the casual, open nature of their marraige. That is fine. Whatever works for a couple. However, I think that the real reason they were happy not only with the marital arrangement but with each other is that they are the same, morally. They were happy with each other because they are two degenerates of a kind. I think that the divorce happened because of The Firm, but also because Sarah got caught on film blatently fooling around. So, yeah, it was the palace, but also her choice to go on vacation with her lover.

Why is Andrew so off limits? Because Fergie will always make a better story as a villain?
I have no doubt that he was behind that scheme to get the cash for his appearances. He seems to be terribly manipulative, and arrogant, and sleazy. And Sarah is the perfect victim. She's oozing low self-esteem and mental health issues. Her talk with the big O really highlighted just how screwed up she is - and she WORSHIPS Andrew. I can only guess it's because he hasn't tossed her like everyone else she's ever known.
There was one super cringy moment of that interview where O and Sarah were bemoaning her loss of the ladies in waiting and the jump into the "real world". Only Oprah would think that continuing to live in a castle with millions of dollars is an epic fall.

Entertainment Tonight has been talking about his shenanigans.
Yeah, he's a weirdo.

Excellent article about Andrew and his misadventures in the latest Vanity Fair (August 2011)--it goes into detail about the many accusations and scandals associated with him and discusses how life will change for him if/when Charles becomes King. Apparently Andrew is Mummy's favorite and she has essentially protected him from any and all critics--Charles will not do so, and will probably strip Andrew of many responsibilities and take his daughters off the payroll. Oh noes!

Has it ever been explained why Andrew is her favorite?

The author of the piece opines that Andrew came along at a relatively quiet and relaxed time in the Queen's life, as opposed to the whirlwind of new marriage and new royal duties into which Charles and Anne were born. There's a twelve-year gap between Charles and Andrew, and by the time Andrew came along, the Queen had settled into her royal duties and become much more comfortable in her role. Plus, he was a really cute baby and the Queen was quoted as saying that she expected that he would be thoroughly spoilt. And he was.

Honestly, I don't think Beatrice and Eugenie will cry if taken off the Royal Payroll, if its done the right way. Andrew's problem is that he's such a fuckup that being taken "off the payroll" and not pampered will expose him-such as showing that his "job" is one he's certainly unqualified for.
