SAG winner Viola Davis takes on diversity and expectations

Throughout her time at Sunday night’s SAG awards, Davis shared insight about diversity with gathered journalists.

“We’ve become a society of trending topics. Diversity is not a trending topic. It’s just not. All the actors of color I know don’t place any limitations on themselves. Regardless of what’s going on with the Academy, regardless of what’s going on in Hollywood, they will find a way to be excellent. We always have and always will."

Yup, that is a far cry from the radiant Viola from the Golden Globes and the SAG awards. My college boyfriend was the photographer for the theatre department at our school and took many portraits as part of that job. He always said it was really tough to get the lighting right for groups with widely different skin tones, but I would think that the Divine Annie L would be able to get it right.

You would expect Annie Leibovitz to get it right. Since the actresses were most likely photographed separately or at least in smaller groups and then photoshopped together, maybe that effected the ability to have Viola lit properly. It also appears like they tried to do a smoky eye on her and didn't do a very good job of it.  I dunno. I definitely agree though, Viola doesn't look as goddess-like as she usually does.
