The Robert/Jane thing was shocking to me. I took the Turkish Ambassador dying in Mary's room in stride, but when Robert and Jane were kissing? I squealed and had to avert my eyes.

OMG, the Robert/Jane thing was my least favourite storyline of season 2, just dreadful.

I agree about how terrible the Jane/Robert almost affair. Cora's dying upstairs m he's willing to mess around with a maid. Get ahold of yourself, man!

The Christmas special really is the saving grace, it recaptures that S1 feeling sorely lacking in S2. So just hang on. And it ends on a happy note.

Yeah, the Christmas special had a great S1 feel to it and thankfully brought some happiness to an otherwise gloomy S2. It certainly gives me hope for S3.
From what I understand, while Julian Fellowes was writing S2 he was also writing some other series for ITV about the Titanic. He probably stretched himself too thin and didn't edit and revise like he needed to because he didn't have time. He was finished with the Titanic series by the time he wrote the Christmas special which would explain why it was much stronger. As far as I know he's not writing anything else but S3 at the moment so here's hoping for a stronger S3!

I don't think season 2 is as bad as many people say it is but yeah, the Christmas special is quite wonderful ;-)

They were all hilarious. I giggled at the Dowager Countess, but it was Mary and Matthew where I actually shrieked with laughter.

Yes, I love that Mary comes with dead Mr. Pamuk.
