I have such fond memories of the first season of Downton (airing on PBS). I had just given birth and was on mat leave, pretty much couch-bound with nursing. I was hooked from the first episode and couldn't believe how GOOD it was! And not only that: the remake of Upstairs, Downstairs was also released. I watched the original series, so I was in heaven with all the English period drama on my screen!

I don't know why (or how?) but I just binged watched the entire series again to prep for the new movie. I saw the last movie in theaters, but I don't know if I really need to re-watch that...or do I?
I'm still giggling over the constant murder connections that the Bates are always mixed up in. Why couldn't that be Barrow? Always tugging at the viewer's heartstrings over the sweet Anna who couldn't hurt a fly and is kind to everyone and giving her the must gut-wrenching story lines.

A couple of weeks ago, I was planning just to watch a couple of episodes because nothing else was on, and wound up doing a full 10-day binge.
You could play a drinking game with the number of times they said in the final season, "The world is changing/our way of life won't be around much longer/we are relics of the old times, but new times are coming."
Also, I re-watched Gosford Park and it is amazing. I didn't appreciate it enough when it first came out.
