You guys, THIS. WAS. AWESOME.
The only thing I didn't like was judicious use of shaky cam, cutaway shots and blurriness (I don't know what it's called when they do that). It makes me nauseous, and prevents me from being able to really visually get a grip on what's happening. But that was my only gripe, and the only thing that stopped it (for me) being 10/10. Instead it was 9.95/10.
I won't say much, because I don't want to influence peoples' thinking before they go in, and I don't want to tempt people to click on spoilers. All I'll say is that they got it right. The Districts, the Capitol, the costumes, the Games, everything. The movie really passed on all the info about the world without spending a lot of time on exposition, there was only one moment when they used the "for those of you that don't know..." thing, and even then it didn't feel too clunky. I also really liked that outside the Capitol the sets weren't too slick.
Jennifer Lawrenced KILLED IT (no pun intended), and everyone else was great as well. I feel like everyone got it, and was really pulling their weight to make the movie great. They way they handled the uprising in District 11 made me hungry (again, no pun intended) for the next three movies NOW.
(I know I said I wouldn't spoiler, but better to err on the side of caution, I guess).

LOOOOVED it! LOOOOOOOVED it! JL was amazing. Woody was so good as Haymitch, everyone was on point. There were a few things I was annoyed they cut, but overall, it was pretty faithfull to the book. Can't wait for the second one.

I have heard nothing but great things. Lots of praise for Jennifer Lawrence. Oscar nom maybe? My local podunk theatre has it on opening weekend and is playing it six times a day, so I should be able to get in there somewhere.

This was fantastic. I have very few complaints, and they're small, mostly little bits from the book I would've liked to see on screen but understand were probably cut for time.
Everyone did a great job. JL pwned.
I was actually surprised at how intense it was. It was disturbing and downright scary. My heart was pounding the whole time.

You know, I do want to see this movie. But then I read this article and I wonder if it's worth seeing.

I didn't find the film to be whitewashed. There are plenty of POC in prominent roles, and they nailed District 11 as being primarily African-American.
I feel like for every person who is absolutely convinced that Katniss is supposed to be biracial, there is someone like me who didn't get that impression at all from her description in the book, and I don't know why we're automatically wrong and everyone making it into a race issue is automatically right. In any case, the story is less about race than it is about class, and in the movie the class issues are front and center; you see many POC on both sides of the class divide, both oppressor and oppressed.

Saw the movie last night. I must say, I'm surprised at all the praise. I put the movie at a C+.
I had reread the books prior to seeing the movie so the plot revisions and/or cuts were glaringly obvious. That didn't bother me all that much. I mean, it wasn't like a Harry Potter situation. I just wish that the movie had spent more time on the training and the games. Actually I wish the movie had just started with the reaping and ended with the last tribute standing (you know, that one scene). President Snow shouldn't have shown up until the second movie. I thought his parts were pointless.
The actor who played Peeta? Terrible. So was Lenny Kravits. I thought the tributes playing evil was too over the top. Rue was awfully clean and tidy. The shaky cam thing was a bit much.
Jennifer Lawrence was good. So was Elizabeth Banks. Played Effie perfectly.
