Good lord, I watched the pirated screener of this online and praise Jebus I did! I almost paid to see this junk in the theater. I cannot even fathom the praise this trainwreck is getting. I'm pretty sure the director was going for Moulin Rouge, but he ending up in Schlockville. Anne's one big scene/song was okay, but nowhere near the level of award worthy that people have been hyping it up to be. For a nearly 3 hour movie, it plodded on forever. I found myself skipping scenes. A LOT. Fantine's fall happened way too fast, and I was so distracted by her full set of teeth, when the clearly show her getting them pulled. And was the cinematographer drunk? The scene where Valjean discovers Fantine on the stroll was full on camp. I don't think the director possibly could have been going for full on drama, that shit was HIGH CAMP. Best part of the movie was SBC and HBC. The rest was meh, bordering on terrible. And Redmayne's lip's dear god. Like white caterpillars stretched across his face. I can't believe this movie is being taken even remotely seriously. And I was completely horrified by Eponine's waist. It looked computer generated. I hope that was an optical illusion and not real. She was tinier than Fantine/Anne.

I finally saw this. I liked it okay I guess, but I doubt I will ever be seeing it again. I thought Hugh Jackman was great. Anne was good, the standout definitely being "I Dreamed a Dream" which brought me to tears multiple times. That was the only scene that I thought she deserved an Oscar for, so I'm not really sure if someone should win an Oscar for, what? Less than five minutes of a film? My favorites were the kids who played Cosette and Gavroche. Oh and I loved Eddie Redmayne, but I am biased due to the crush I've had on him for several years. "Empty Chairs at Empty Tables" was really good.
But overall, meh. I wish I'd gone to see Zero Dark Thirty instead.

Dame Judy Dench called, she said you can have her Oscar when you pull it from her cold, dead hands.

I support Anne winning the Oscar because she brought 5 minutes of life to an otherwise tedious movie. I lost interest as soon as Fantine died. I thought most of the singing was dreadful, with the exceptions of Anne and Samantha Barks. Russel Crowe must have been a joke on the audience.

Oh, babycakes, you've just expressed everything I thought about this movie. I was so looking forward to it and ended up so disappointed. I really wish I could fast-forward through some of the scenes, it was so tedious. I thought there was something wrong with the screen when I saw Eponine's waist, it seemed so unreal. And caterpiller lips? Bwahahahaha!
I'm so glad I'm among people who share my POV. I don't dare post my opinion on FB because my friends are fawning over this, one even going so far as to say she cried from beginning to end, was emotionally drained for days, and woke up with a 'grief hangover' the morning after her 3rd viewing of the film. I'm wondering if I saw the same movie as them.

Me too. I don't care about its flaws; I just loved it. And I loved Russell Crowe. I would hit that in a heartbeat, and if he sang through the entire encounter, I'd take that as a compliment.

I saw it last night and generally enjoyed it. Although, I came away thinking that Eponine was far too good for Marius. She was bright, spunky, pretty and above all, they had a real relationship, not some fantasy in his head that he concocted after seeing some random blonde for 30 seconds.
I felt like yelling, "There's plenty of fish in the sea, dearie. Try one of the other curly headed revolutionaries if that's your type."

Right? I can't remember the name of the main revolutionary dude, but damn, he was a cutie - and he didn't have fish lips, so bonus.

Enjolras. So hot. Eddie's lips don't bother me, but that other guy was way hotter and could sing better.
