Tom Hooper (The King's Speech) is directing. William Nicholson (Gladiator, Nell, Elizabeth: The Golden Age) is writing the script from the musical. Hathaway is Fantine. Jackman is Valjean. Crowe is Javert. Rumored for Eponine? Taylor Swift, Lea Michele, Evan Rachel Wood and ScarJo. This could be awesome or it could suck. Hooper has an Oscar but musicals aren't the easiest genre to direct. Many otherwise successful directors have tried and failed. |

Eddie Redmayne is Marius as well. I liked him a lot in The Pillars of the Earth and he recently won a Tony too.
Lea Michele would be perfect for Eponine. Apparently ScarJo's reps are denying that she tried out for the role.
The Les Mis soundtrack was the first cassette I ever bought. I know all the songs! I recently bought the Blu-ray for the 25th anniversary concert as well, which was excellent despite the presence of the littlest Jonas brother.

On the one hand, I'm too close to this. Like, I've seriously considered naming a daughter Eponine. If I had to...I could tolerate Lea as the character. The person I'm 'no effing way' about is ScarJo. And I like ScarJo; she's just not Eponine.

This is such an obvious cast (well 3/4 of the ones mentioned) that I kind of hate it already.

Helena Bonham Carter would be interesting as Mdme. Thenadier. I'll be honest, I'm not excited for this at all. I think I overloaded on this musical as a kid, and now I shudder at thought.
Plus IMO both in the book and in the musical Marius and Cosette kind of annoy the hell out of me. They're just such pushovers.

While Lea Michele's over the top faces while singing might work on stage, it was one of the reasons Glee started to annoy me.
