I've only heard bits and pieces of maybe two songs from "Les Mis" in my life, and only I Dreamed a Dream in full, thanks to Susan Boyle. I'm not a fangirl by any means but that trailer sucked me in! First, it looks like a movie that happens to have singing in it, not an overproduced, soundstage musical. Second, they bothered to find actors who can sing rather than going the route of "Moulin Rouge", "Chicago", and (I will endlessly hate Tim Burton for this) "Sweeney Todd". Ann Hathaway acted the hell out of that song in the trailer. I was in tears. The advantage that a movie has oer a stage production is that songs don't have to be belted to the back row; actors can give them shading that would be lost on stage. She nailed it.
I can't wait for this.

I saw the trailer on our big screen TV during the Tonys. I haven't looked forward to a movie like this in a long time. Mr. d, however, was traumatized by the ravaging of Anne Hathaway's beauty and her emaciation in that last shot of her--"My God, what have they done to that poor girl?"
She's playing a tubercular prostitute during the French Revolution, honey. It's called Oscar bait. It'll be okay--here, sit down and watch The Devil Wears Prada again...

The more I read about the June Revolution the less I sympathise with them. I'm an Orléanist at heart. Anyway, I'm looking forward to seeing this because I'm a huge Amanda Seyfried fan though I suspect it will be another thankless role for her.

I am all about this--my parents were huge fans when I was a kid. We owned the soundtrack, sheet music, tshirts, I even have a Cosette doll. I still cry whenever I hear "Stars".

Extended first look. For fear of sounding ridiculous: OH MY GOD. I can't wait. And Anne's version of I dreamed a dream slays me still. The tears just come as soon as I hear it. I'm going to be a total mess in the theatre.

Can. Not. Wait. This is shaping up so far to be a perfect film adaptation of the musical. I love the way they are filming things with live singing as the actors get even more artistic freedom than the ones on Broadway do. Costumes, set, cast, tone - everything just so far seems spot on. Now just let me hear Russell Crowe sing a few lines!
Pleaseohpleaseohplease let it actually be as good as it looks. I'm so exhausted of musical to movie adaptations looking like they're going to be good from the trailer and then sucking ass (Phantom, Rent), just being a trainwreck from the beginning (Rock of Ages) or a mixed bag of suck and fun (Mamma Mia, Hairspray, The Producers). Really, since Chicago, I think Nine is the only one I've really liked and most other people hated it.

The fact that they're singing live is just PHENOMENAL. I'm so looking forward to this and the brilliant work that I anticipate to see and hear on the screen.
