Lincoln was such a large man interesting that his voice was the pitch it was.

And the Oscar for Best Actor goes to Daniel Day-Lewis. This would break the nine-way tie of actors who have won this award twice. I'm with you on this one. I'd place a bet on it today.

Semi-blind item: I got high with one of the Lincoln cast members one night when I was a wee 19-year-old living in L.A. I cannot wait for this movie! I'm even okay with DDL getting another Oscar; he's so damned talented.

Depending on how good Les Miz ends up actually being, Hugh Jackman might actually give him a run for his money in the Best Actor race.

From the critics reviews, I think Joaquin Phoenix might give them both a run for their money. They made Meryl wait an awfully long time for her 3rd oscar so is be stunned if DDL won even of he blows away the field.

I kinda hope it's Joaquin. Simply because I am SO FUCKING OVER actors winning for biopics. (Frankly, Joaquin was Oscar worthy LONG before he did his Johnny Cash imitation.) It's definitely going to be an interesting race, as DDL's most recent performance in a PT Anderson film netted him the Oscar. New trailer from Debate Night. Honestly, on paper and based on the ads, this looks like the most awful Oscarbait ever. The only thing that is piquing my interest is that Tony Kushner adapted the screenplay and I consider Munich one of the most underrated films in Spielberg's canon. Especially since some of Kushner's strengths (poeticism, humor, moral ambiguity) help temper Spielberg's worst qualities (strict adherence to narrative/proselike qualities/three act structure, earnestness, black hats versus white hats levels of heroes/villains).

So, I'm going to have to eat some crow here. The movie was excellent as was DDL. While I still hope someone else wins the Oscar (because really, he has two already) if he does win it won't annoy me as much as his win for TWBB did.
It's Spielberg's best movie in years, much much better than War Horse. David Straithern should get an Oscar nom for it. My only real complaint is John Williams typical over dramatic score. The important moments were clear enough without the damn violins punctuating them.

roisin54, this is weird, but I read your post before I saw it yesterday, so I thought I'd be prepared to ignore the soundtrack. But I could hardly hear a soundtrack! Must be a function of the theater's sound set up, or my hearing's going. Weird.
Either way, great movie! And accurate costumes.

The costumes really were very accurate. I've been to Ford's Theatre recently, and they have the suit Lincoln was wearing when he was shot on display. They got it exactly right even down to color of the coat. Spielburg apparently did a crazy amount of research for the movie, even going so far as to make a recording of Lincoln's actual pocket watch to use as a sound effect.
The only thing they didn't get right was Lincoln's deathbed scene. Lincoln was too tall to lay normally on the bed at the Pederson house, so they laid him on it diagonally. It's a small quibble though.
