The only thing they didn't get right was Lincoln's deathbed scene. Lincoln was too tall to lay normally on the bed at the Pederson house, so they laid him on it diagonally. It's a small quibble though. For me, they were still able to convey that he was too tall for the bed by making him look really squished on the one they used. It was such a sad, dramatic moment. This was a fantastic film and I love how it wasn't over dramatized and portrayed all those involved with the passing of the 13th Amendment. The scenery, clothing, everything was just exquisite. Fine acting by all the cast and DDL and Sally Field were so wonderful in their iconic roles. Well done, Mr. Spielberg!

This really is Spielberg's best film in ages and just give Daniel Day Lewis the Oscar now. That's was not only the best performance I've seen this year but probably one of the best I've ever seen. It's like there wasn't even an actor there. I really felt like with this movie that I was watching everything live, like it wasn't really a movie, but a documentary that was actually filmed in 1865, if that makes sense. Excellent, excellent work by the entire cast and crew.
I will agree that the score was a little too sentimental and sounded a bit too much like the Gettysburg one in places but I wasn't distracted by it. If anything this almost didn't need a score as the performances really carried everything. I also really appreciated that the script wasn't dumbed down with regards to language and exposition.
It might be Oscar-bait but I'm happy it's at least living up to that hype.

Loved this movie so much. Emotional, uplifting and wonderful. I rarely cry during movies but I did at the end of this one. I thought the acting was superb though I have to say that the one who stood out the most to me was Tommy Lee Jones. DDL was amazing as was Sally Field, but TLJ's performance touched me so much. His last scene at his house and you will know which one after you've seen it, that whole look on his face pretty much captured the euphoria of that day and the importance of this historic moment. I loved it and I want to watch it again though I will wait until it's available on dvd.

Long, talkative, but loaded with History with a capital "H". Sally Field and David Straithern were very good, and DDL wasn't acting; he WAS Abraham Lincoln. I won't mind a third for him either.
Really didn't notice the score that much. It seemed almost incidental. Loved the part at the end with Tommy Lee Jones and S. Epetha Merkerson in bed together. "You should have been there." And Kevin Kline plays a "Wounded Soldier" but I never spotted him.

Just got home from seeing it. Truly fine acting. Absolutely no one's talents were wasted.

Loved, loved, loved this. I've always wondered what it would be like to actually be in Lincoln's presence, to hear him speak and watch him interact with others. I think DDL's performance is the closest we'll get.
Tommy Lee Jones was also a standout. Sally Field at times seemed like she was "acting," but the rest of the performances were so natural.
I agree about the score though. This was a very un-Spielberg-like film, but then John Williams' score would be there to remind you of it. It wasn't necessary.

Brilliant acting. I think that Day-Lewis, Jones, and Strairthairn can all expect Oscar nods. I also loved James Spader. It was one of those movies where everyone brought their A game--Hal Holbrook, Jackie Lee Haley, and Jared Harris were especially great. And Lee Pace! I finally get the buzz about him. I told MrB that when he looks back on his acting achievements from 2012, I dare say that this will rate higher than "lesser-known vampire from Twilight".

Ah, Lee Pace...I watched The Fall for that man. Worth it for the parts where he's an guyliner-wearing Zorro-esque outlaw.

Wonderful, wonderful film. I almost wish it would have ended before the assassination, which I was dreading the entire film. However, it was done in such a way that it did not feel exploitative or manipulative.

Well, I finally got it. He was awesome, everyone was.
