Just watched this on the weekend and absolutely loved it. Great cast, with some amazing performances: I thought Anna Kendrick and Anjelica Huston should have had Oscar noms for their work. JGL and Seth Rogen were also very, very good. But to me, the story was the real star. It managed to tell the story of a young man with cancer without ever, even for a moment, going sappy. It was funny, even raunchy at times, poignant, touching, and just felt so damn real: the characters felt like real people, acting like real human beings rather than characters in a movie. It's one of my favorite movies, ever. This movie also has a great soundtrack, another bonus! Trailer here.

I concur, and wholeheartedly. Can Huston do wrong? I've yet to see any evidence.

She was so brilliant in this. There were so many moments where she could have over-played the material she was given, making that mom more "dramatic", but she didn't. Every scene she was in she played perfectly. If there was a weak link in this, it was Bryce Dallas Howard as the girl-friend. She wasn't bad, but she was just not as good as the rest. Maybe because her role was kind of thankless...
Also, Skeletor the dog deserves an honourable mention for being the least cuddly, least cute dog I've ever seen in a movie. Just the fact that the dog wasn't used as a prop for some kind of plastered on cuteness was fantastic.
I just can't say enough good things about this movie. Also "It's stage 4 back cancer" has now become my new go-to phrase when I'm moaning about some minor pain and people ask me what's wrong.

I really regret having to return this to Redbox because the portion of the commentary I listened to with the screenwriter, Seth and others was really interesting given the autobiographical nature of the script.
I have such a crush on Anna Kendrick.
