Ooh, tanyak, that's a big move! I hope you like it! Finding a new hair person is stressful. I have been going to the same person for about 6-8 years now. I have very curly hair and I have been scarred by bad haircuts over the years.* Because it's so curly, it takes FOREVER to grow out when someone messes it up. The person I go to now does a great job cutting curly hair but she cuts really, really fast and always ends up taking off more than I want. Which means my hair incrementally gets shorter and shorter with every haircut. She always has a lot of drama going on in her personal life which she vents about when I'm in the chair, so it's not a relaxing experience. And, like tanyak, I feel like her style isn't so fresh anymore. I'd like a change but I've been burned before so I'm scared to start looking around. * The worst was when I received a mullet that I did not ask for about 12 years ago. TRAUMATIC. A mullet? Yikes! That said, the fact that she keeps cutting your hair shorter and shorter would be enough to make me start looking around. Is there anyone at your job who has cute, curly hair who you could ask for a recommendation? Or heck, stop some random woman on the street who has great hair. She'll be flattered that you said anything and would probably be happy to recommend her salon. As the personal life chat: That's one of the main reasons I stopped going to my old dentist. They took care of my teeth fine, but were really unprofessional in several ways. The only tech they had was the woman in her mid to late 50s. She was very nice and did good work, but based on her chatter, she missed her calling as a hairstylist. lol As soon as my butt hit the chair, she would start in on some story -- about her daughter, about her grandson, about her girlfriends and their adventures, about random guys. Keep in mind, I saw this woman only twice a year. One of my final straws was during my last visit, she started talking about some neighbor in her condo complex? And she said something about "I think he thought I was going to give him some, but he wrong." Check, please! The next day, I called Mr. Tanyak's dental office to schedule my first appointment. lol I used to have the same problem with one is the hygienists in dentist’s office. I always prayed I wouldn’t get her. She never shut up and some of the stuff she shared was actually upsetting. And of course you can’t answer or object because your mouth is wedged open LOL. I did once say DONT TELL ME THAT! Anyway, I haven’t seen her the last few visits and I’m so relieved I really like everyone else in this office, and it took me years to find a dentist I like this much.

I haven't had a haircut since before the shutdown, but each time I've changed to a new person, I indulge in small talk for a couple of appointments. Afterward, I straight up tell the stylist I'm really tired and would she mind if I just dozed off during the appointment? Then I close my eyes. I don't fall asleep to the point where I can't keep my head up, but I do zone out. Triple goal achieved--hair is cut, avoided awkward small talk, and I'm feeling more rested.

DevaCurl is currently the defendant in a class action lawsuit because their products were making people lose their hair so I would actively avoid any salon using their training unless you already know for sure that their products won't hurt you. Obviously if this works for you, great, I would just be wary!

Obviously if this works for you, great, I would just be wary! I did NOT know that. Thanks for the info. I have tried their stuff in the past, but couldn't handle the overly sweet fragrance they scented everything with, so I ended throwing it out after a couple of weeks. Just as well!

That was my reaction, too. It was a "roses really smell like poo-poo" situation for a lot of their merch.

Ugh. I use DevaCurl. My hair's not falling out any more than normal though so I guess I'll keep using it? I have not noticed that about the rose smell. Maybe my smeller's broken but the gel of theirs I used smelled like airplane glue to me at first but then I got used to it.

Has anyone tried Each and Every deodorant? I'm curious but have been betrayed by natural deodorants before.
