I love the old TV show and I've seen the movie. IGNORE the trailer--the film is nothing like it. It's an affectionate re-imagining.

I watched it this weekend. I don't have anything particularly deep or insightful to say about it. lol I'll just say I found it cute and fun and like with almost all Tim Burton films visually cool. The "Barnabas deals with the early 70s" comedic bits were inoffensive shtick. I also enjoyed the sequence with Alice Cooper's performance. I thought Michelle Pfieffer and Johnny Depp hit just the right OTT soapy tone in their scenes together. Chloe Moretz was annoying. I'd never seen Bella Heathcote before but her complexion is stunning and her name is straight out of a gothic novel. lol. Kind of appropriate for the role.

I loved it. And the soundtrack is amazing. In my opinion it was marketed terribly.

I'm a Huge fan of the original Dark Shadows, and I think I'm just going to skip this. I'll catch it on HBO.
I'd rather go see MIB3.

I don't care how this was marketed, it's nothing like the original show and I'm tired of Burton/Depp thinking they need to feel the goth scene in.every.project.they.do. as if there is a void or something. Ouch!

Most of the likely audience for this movie never heard of the show. Unlike a lot of other 1960s shows, this one wasn't heavily syndicated and simply doesn't have much pop culture currency. When potential viewers heard it was based on a soap opera, they probably did a collective WTF. Vampire soap opera? Was it funny? Dramatic? Scary? Or just as stupid as "vampire soap opera" sounds? And what the hell is a soap opera, anyway (audience under age 25 only)?
I think the movie suffered from apparently being a comedy but the trailer and ads didn't show much that seemed funny. It was the same old Depp-does-Burtonesque-strange-guy schtick.

I saw this today, kind of disappointed.
Wasn't that funny, wasn't at all horrifying and didn't believe the romance.
The costumes and sets were awesome but the story lacking, typical Burton.
