I watch Monster-in-Law every time it’s on. Jennifer Lopez and Jane Fonda are fantastic together. It’s like Sliding Doors, the only Paltrow movie I like, but I like it a lot (it could be John Hannah…) YES! Sliding Doors is my only exception on the "meh" train on Gwyneth lol; I could care less about anything else she's been in! And I am such a sucker for a Scottish accent! John Hannah was perfect in that role.

So, is Jennifer being mediocre in acting spiting on her own craft?

I loved Gwyneth in Emma and Persuasion. I have yet to see a damn thing I could stomach Jennifer Lopez in.

Yes, love Emma. I don’t think I’ve seen her in Persuasion. Love Sliding Doors.
I don’t like JLo in any movie. The other night, I was in the mood for something mindless. I put on Marry Me but I just couldn’t. Turned it off after about 15 minutes.

I don't think Gwyneth was ever in a version of Persuasion. She was in a movie called Possession, though.

I thought Jennifer was great as Selena. She was young and still fairly unknown then. She really captured Selena's sexiness combined with her sweet, bubbly nature. She also lipsynced, which was a good choice because the real Selena was a much, much better singer.

I have a fondness for The Wedding Planner in spite of how not great it is because of Matthew McConaughey and Judy Greer.

Anyway, I did think she and Aaron Eckhart were good together. Maybe it’s unsurprising, seeing as how he’s been accused several times of being insufferable and perhaps abusive on sets. 🤣

I ran across a JLo movie I'd never heard of, called Second Act. It was such a classic JLo role and kind of a throwback to the 80s/90s movies in the vein of Secret of My Success or Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead, I was surprised at how much I enjoyed it. Granted, I find myself in a mood for fluffy entertainment these days after a very difficult year, but it was a fun, mindless watch. Hands down the best part of it though was that Leah Remini played her best friend and their scenes together are so fun and natural, like you're watching them in real life. I have three Jlo movies that I never will not love: Monster-In-Law, where her on-screen chemistry with Jane Fonda is more potent and delicious than any chemistry she has ever had with any dude who's been her fictional romantic partner, Hustlers, possibly her very best movie, overall, and the movie where her acting is every bit as good as all the acclaim she got for it says it is (and again, the chemistry she had with her female co-star, Constance Wu, was off the charts), and Shall We Dance, a little-seen all-star American remake of a Japanese film. In this film, Jlo's acting is understated and underrated, and it's one of those old-fashioned dramedies that truly deserve the cliched "crowd-pleaser" moniker. Her co-stars are Richard Gere and Susan Sarandon. Those are my three Jlo comfort-films. I have been meaning to watch Second Act for the longest time, but I think I will finally give it a try.
