Saw this today and really enjoyed it! I'm not what you call a Joss Whedon fangirl (am I the only one who finds Buffy a bit overrated?) but he knocked this one out of the park!
Is there a Black Widow/Hawkeye movie coming up in the future? I really hope so because I loved Black Widow (odd since I'm not normally a Scarlet fan) and I thought her interactions with Hawkeye were awesome. On a shallow note, Scarlet is absolutely stunning as a red head.
Honestly, all the interactions between the actors was great. I liked that the characters didn't really get along at first. If Tony Stark and Steve Rogers had immediately become BFFs it just would have felt wrong. Tony, while incredibly charming, is also rather selfish and reckless. Steve, on the other hand, is very by the book and self-sacrificing. These two are bound to clash.
As others have said, props to Chris Evans for the way he sells Captain America's goodness without making him annoying. That character can so easily end up being annoyingly self-righteous.
I also really enjoyed Mark Ruffalo as Hulk. He completely sold the character's inner torment without entering emo territory. Though I loved it when he finally let go and started smashing things! Also, loved it when tossed Loki around like a rag doll! Thanks Greecie posters for revealing his parting quip! Completely missed since my audience was laughing and cheering a good minute after that scene. The only about Hulk that threw me is that at the end he suddenly could control how he vented his rage. Hulk went from destroying everything in his path to being able to just focus on the baddies. How did that happen?
Tom Hiddleston was once again awesome as Loki! He certainly had the evil grin down. He also made Loki somewhat sympathetic which couldn't have been an easy task.
COULSON! *SOBS*
