I watched The Night Manger, and when he was supposed to be a tough guy living in a small town and create this persona, it was just laughable. He put on a leather jacket and rode a motorcycle and was exactly the same as usual. But somehow this was supposed to be menacing. Maybe it was the fault of the writing, but he was not believable at all. That's when my burgeoning crush started to die. It bubbled up again when I saw him dancing, but then was strangled by the walk on the beach with nana.

Yeah, I think he's a decent actor but perhaps doesn't have the mix of qualities that is needed to become as acclaimed and/or famous as he wants to be (supposedly)? People like Redmayne and Fassbender IMO are just plain superior actors, and no amount of good PR can distract from actual performance quality. Cumberbatch, I'd argue, is a bit better, but more importantly in the right kind of role he can be charismatic and memorable in a way that Hiddleston so far hasn't managed outside of Loki. All three of these men also seem to have a better idea what sort of projects will strengthen their profile. None of them are great stars, but they have a high profile in the industry and awards recognition.
Hiddleston IMO tends towards being good, but not outstanding in his projects, and he doesn't always pick the best projects. Loki made him popular and it's classical scenery chewing material, but becoming memorable beyond that isn't all that easy. That said, he's got a great career. He's very talented, he works steadily on pretty high profile projects, earns well and has a solid standing in the industry. That's a better gig than 99,9 per cent of working actors have going for themselves. That he's not A-List...well, who is? And I don't know if trying to force it (if that's what this is) will work out for him or rather create backlash.

He was sexy as Loki, like Orlando Bloom was sexy as Legolas, other roles, eh. I think I've only seen him in "Thor." I didn't know who he was at the time, but I couldn't get past the fact that he looked like (figure skater) Johnny Weir. I even kept asked Mr. Tanyak "Who's is that? Is that Johnny Weir?" lol

I actually do wish he would snatch Cumberbatch's wig, I find him a bit more likable.
Johnny Weir... that is hilarious. I totally see it.

I changed my avatar to Tom and his fist, in honor of the one modeling pose he knows. I used to call the pose "look at my expensive watch" but apparently he does it even when he's not wearing a watch. OMG, you have me laughing right here at my desk. I bet the photographer or director of the shoot yelled, "Make a fist Tom, look like you mean it!" I find him bland and boring. The most interesting photo I've seen of him lately was when he was walking out of some club or some place in NYC with Idris Elba. Johnny Weir...you know something, if his hair was a bit darker I can totally see it.

I noticed the Weir resemblance too. Wasn't there some meme running around, or fanon, that Loki was gay?

I think Cumberbatch actually has a leg up on Hiddleston because he's so butt ugly that he's perceived as more interesting and can get a different type of role. I think Hiddleston is good looking, but in a Britishy type of way that doesn't appeal to everyone, so he's sort of stuck in the middle - too blandly handsome to be interesting, but not handsome enough to be a hunky heartthrob.

There's a gif floating around of Tom's face morphing into Katy Perry's. Let me Google it... Found it!

I think this is totally true. Cumberbatch is not conventionally attractive, but he can look striking and interesting with the right get-up. At this point IMO he's also resigned himself to the fact that he won't ever be a classic leading man in Hollywood and goes for parts that fit both his strengths as an actor and suit his unusual appearance. Villain stuff, character actor things, strange heroes like...well, Doctor Strange.
